Earlier this month, in Part CXIII, we examined Joe Biden’s resemblance to the subject of a 1970’s pop hit who inhabited a fantasy world that caused others to suffer. This week, we will go back a decade and a half before that hit song to put the Biden family romp through China when Joe was Vice President and its continuing repercussions that continue to play in 2023.
Brenda Lee burst onto the pop music scene in the late 1950s as a diminutive teenager with a large voice. Nicknamed “Little Miss Dynamite” after one of her recordings, she belted out numerous hits into the mid 1960s, and remained an influence for decades to come (e.g. being cited in the lyrics of Golden Earring’s “Radar Love” in 1974*, having her cover of “The Crying Game” featured in the 1993 film of the same name, etc.).
One of her seasonal hits has been “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree”, which this holiday season finally became a Number 1 hit after hanging around the charts for 63 years, which means it hung in 13 more years than Joe Biden did before he was placed in the Number 1 slot in his profession. Biden too was apparently surprised by his accession to this slot, as he spent his eight years as Vice-President trying to have his family peddle as much of his influence as possible to formerly and currently communist nations and their oligarchs. As he does while a pre-trial releasee who has refused to appear for a subpoenaed legal matter, son Hunter continues to cruise in government aircraft (now Air Force One and Marine One, but previously Air Force Two), whether he is selling his paintings or his father’s office.
In order to memorialize what the House impeachment inquiry is slowly assembling in banking and other records (and for which Hunter’s partner Patrick Ho was sentenced to federal prison for his participation), I have borrowed the tune from Brenda Lee’s song (the lyrics of which always perplexed me, as how can there be a new old-fashioned way?), which hopefully captures the essence of the endless holiday the Bidens have experienced with their Chinese investor.
Hangin’ around with Chairman Xi
Though his title’s President
Fly in the Biden family
Show him how his money’s spent
Hangin’ around with Chairman Xi
As we make our latest offers
We’ll have a weak China policy
And he’ll fill the Biden coffers
You will get an enriched jolly feeling when you see
Chinese payments as they wander
Our shell companies to launder
Hangin’ around with Chairman Xi Flying there on Air Force 2
Everyone making more money
For the things that Joe will do
You will get a sentimental feeling when Joe claims
My son Hunter can’t be finer
He’s not taking cash from China
Hangin’ around with Chairman Xi
Every day’s a holiday
Every old Biden getting cash
As the Chinese get their way
*The Dutch rock group Golden Earring went on to have another smash hit in 1983 during the early days of MTV (when it was still Music Television) with “Twilight Zone”, so one can imagine my disappointment when 1992 came and went without the Dutch rock group scoring a US charting recording, thus disrupting the cycle.
