Information operations (formerly called psychological operations) encompass coordinated efforts involving the use of information and communication to influence perceptions, beliefs, behaviors, or decision-making of target audiences.
In an age where information dissemination is instantaneous and ubiquitous, the United States faces a pressing need for legislation specifically designed to shield Americans from domestic information operations. The existing regulatory framework primarily addresses international dissemination of government-produced content but lacks comprehensive safeguards against internal propaganda targeting U.S. citizens. The absence of robust laws directly addressing domestic information operations leaves an alarming gap, raising concerns about potential manipulation, misinformation, and undue influence on public opinion within the country.
The current legal landscape, rooted in laws like the Smith-Mundt Act and various agency regulations, primarily focuses on governing the dissemination of government-produced information intended for foreign audiences. While these regulations restrict overt propaganda aimed at foreign populations, they do not offer explicit protections against similar practices targeted at Americans within U.S. borders. This void in legislation exposes citizens to potential manipulation and misrepresentation, undermining the foundation of democratic discourse.
The need for a new law specifically tailored to protect Americans from domestic information operations cannot be overstated. Such legislation should establish clear boundaries and prohibitions on the use of government resources or agencies for influencing domestic public opinion. It should delineate the limits of government-led communication efforts, ensuring transparency, accountability, and adherence to ethical standards. Additionally, robust safeguards should be in place to prevent the misuse of taxpayer-funded information for partisan or manipulative purposes, preserving the integrity of public discourse and citizens’ rights to accurate and unbiased information.
A new law addressing domestic information operations should align with constitutional principles, notably safeguarding the freedom of speech, the press, and citizens’ rights to access unbiased information. Balancing these protections with measures to prevent government overreach or abuse of power is crucial to preserving the democratic fabric of the nation. As information warfare and digital manipulation tactics evolve, enacting legislation specifically designed to protect Americans from internal information operations is a critical step in safeguarding the integrity of public discourse and upholding the democratic ideals upon which the nation was founded.
In conclusion, the absence of robust legal safeguards against domestic information operations leaves American citizens vulnerable to potential manipulation, disinformation and misinformation. A new law tailored to shield citizens from internal government (or government contractor) propaganda and information manipulation is urgently needed. This legislation should establish clear boundaries, ensure transparency, and protect citizens’ rights to accurate and unbiased information, fortifying the bedrock of democracy and fostering an informed and resilient society.

In principle an excellent point, David. In practice the Deep State will continue to flagrantly thumb its nose at laws and courts until some of them are duly tried, duly convicted, duly sentenced and duly sent for a hot date with a gal named Sparky. Even then, we KNOW they will have zero qualms about using the same methods on judges and jurors they do on us… even more so, actually, there is a long history of NSA bulk-harvesting Congressmember phone convos and email looking for blackmail or damaging-leak material. This doesn’t stop until some of the Nomenklatura have to PERSONALLY pay high prices for what they and their minions do… for example the black heart of Tuskegee still beats in the CDC/NIH/etc because not one of the Wannabe Mengeles (bite me, Godwintards, you know DAMN WELL that past performance IS indicative of future results) has ever been held accountable. This is how you get that evil little freak Mini-Mengele Fauci the Demented Dwarf and all of his sadistic little experiments… similarly, the Intel Community as a whole has become (more like always been) an institutional haven for at best socioopaths and frequently psychopaths. (“Oh, you mean I get to do what I love and hurt people, I get a government paycheck, I get to LITERALLY get away with murder AND I get to say it’s ‘for the greater good’, where can I sign up and how soon?”) OSS in particular was composed of Donovan’s fellow Ivy League psychopaths… there are REASONS why MacArthur refused to have any of those murderous freaks in his theater on pain of throwing them down the deepest hole he could find.
At this point I think our only answer to the Intelligence Mafia is to raze it all to the ground, crush the rubble into gravel, salt the earth and begin again fresh.
