Truth, Duty, and the Three Great Lies Undermining Society

At West Point, the motto is clear: Duty, Honor, Country. These are not just words; they represent a code of conduct, a commitment to truth, and a foundation for leadership. A cadet will not lie, cheat, or steal, nor tolerate those who do—because once integrity is lost, everything else crumbles. Yet today, society is built on three great lies that violate this code and undermine the very principles that keep civilization stable: (1) that evil isn’t real, (2) that macro-evolution is a proven fact, and (3) that greed is a virtue. These lies weaken our sense of duty, erode our honor, and corrupt our sense of service to our country—and if left unchecked, they will lead to collapse.

1. The Lie About Evil: No Honor Without Truth

West Point cadets are bound by the truth—they do not lie, and they do not tolerate those who do. But modern society tells us that evil isn’t real, that morality is subjective, and that people who commit atrocities are simply “misunderstood” or “products of their environment.” This is a direct attack on honor, because honor requires moral clarity—knowing that some actions are objectively wrong. When we excuse corruption, crime, and injustice, we allow evil to spread unchecked. A society that denies the reality of evil also denies the need for honor, duty, and justice. History proves this—every great civilization that tolerated evil collapsed under its weight.

2. The Lie About Evolution: No Duty Without Purpose

A West Point cadet serves with duty—a sense of responsibility greater than themselves. But what happens when a culture teaches that life has no meaning, no purpose, and no design? This is where the lie of macro-evolution comes in. Evolution is often taught as an absolute fact, but while micro-evolution (small changes within species) is observable, macro-evolution (one species evolving into another) has never been directly witnessed. Yet schools and institutions present it as undeniable truth—why? Because if life is just an accident, then there is no duty to anything beyond oneself. A cadet is willing to serve and sacrifice because they believe in something higher than themselves—whether it’s their faith, their country, or their fellow soldiers. But if you remove that sense of purpose, you remove the foundation of duty itself.

3. The Lie About Greed: No Country Without Integrity

The third lie is that greed is good—that wealth and power define success. But West Point teaches cadets that they must not cheat, not steal, and not tolerate those who do. Yet in the modern world, greed is disguised as ambition and corruption is called success. A society that worships wealth will eventually sacrifice everything for it—including morality, justice, and national security. Greed destroys countries just as it destroys individuals. True leadership isn’t about hoarding resources—it’s about serving others. The greatest military leaders in history didn’t seek power for themselves; they sought victory for a cause greater than themselves. A nation that replaces selfless service with selfish ambition will not last.

Conclusion: Restoring Duty, Honor, and Country

The West Point motto embodies timeless principles that stand in direct opposition to these three great lies. Truth matters. Duty matters. Honor matters. A society built on deception will crumble, but one built on integrity, service, and moral clarity will endure. As history has shown, those who uphold truth shape the future, while those who embrace lies collapse into obscurity. The choice is ours: Will we follow a path of deception, or will we restore a culture of duty, honor, and country
