Life is chaos. Not metaphorically. Not symbolically. At its core, existence is one long, tangled mess of disorder, uncertainty, and entropy. From the spinning galaxies to the storms on Earth to the mess in your kitchen—chaos is the natural state of things.
And yet, humans—fragile, flawed, hopeful—stand in the middle of this madness and do something extraordinary: we create order.
We stack bricks and call them cities. We string words into sentences and call it language. We raise children, mend relationships, build cultures, and fight back the darkness with the tiniest acts of discipline, love, and intention. We are not gods—but we are made in the image of one. And that image, at its essence, is the ability to bring light to where there is none.
Creating chaos is easy. Anyone can tear something down. Breaking things requires no skill. Starting fires—literal or metaphorical—is child’s play. Cynicism, outrage, destruction: that’s the default setting for a species living in a broken world.
But to build? To fix? To organize the mess into something that blesses others? That’s divine.
A good human—one striving to live up to that sacred image—brings structure to the storm, not because it’s easy, but because it’s right. That’s what it means to be human. Not to surrender to the madness, but to push back against it. Not to curse the darkness, but to light a candle—even when it’s windy.
So the next time you’re tempted to scoff, destroy, or walk away from the chaos in your life or community, ask yourself: Am I living up to the image I was created in?
The world has enough chaos. What it needs is more builders. Be one.
