One moment, everything is fine; the next, water is spraying everywhere, soaking the floors and leaving us scrambling for towels and the phone number of our plumber. It’s overwhelming and messy, and it happened to us this week.
There are a lot of “burst pipe” moments in this life. Things seem stable, and then suddenly something breaks—a relationship, a diagnosis, or a bank account. And like the water that spreads into every corner downstairs, problems seep into our hearts and leave us feeling like we’re drowning.
But there’s Good News! Scripture reminds us that even in those overwhelming moments, God is present.
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.” (Isaiah 43:2)
Not “if,” but “when.” In this life, the waters will rise. Troubles will come. Loved ones will hurt. Cars will break down. Innocent children will be killed senselessly while at school. God knows trouble will come, but He promises His presence right in the middle of the mess.
What are we to do when things fall apart? We can fix our minds on this: God restores lives. Overwhelming damage becomes an opportunity for His grace to shine. Read these reassuring words:
“In all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
When life is gushing out of control, remember—God is not surprised. He’s present and He’s already working toward restoration. Our job is to trust Him, mop up what we can, and let Him handle the repairs only He can make.
“…The Lord is near.Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
(Philippians 4:5-7)
