Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has a peculiar list of those he has supported: Nation of Islam, Antifa, and even cop killers. Well, he’s in the news again, and predictably, not in a good way. It’s starting to look like he was also playing footsie with those committing the emerging scandals in Minnesota.
As the media belatedly notices the Somali taxpayer hustle in the land of 10,000 lakes, it has come to light that the state’s top law enforcement official, AG Ellison, is associated with the thieves. Ellison allegedly accepted campaign contributions from the very criminals involved in fleecing taxpayers, and is caught on tape (here) offering to run interference for them. He calls it “constituent services.” When I read the story, my reaction was: DUH!
I’ve known that Ellison was a self-serving hustler since I first met the man 17 years ago. That’s who he was as a Congressman, and I’m not surprised in the least that he’s still the same “ethically flexible” person as Minnesota’s Attorney General.
My meeting with Ellison occurred just months after he had been elected to Congress, representing Minnesota. I managed a prototype lab for a major defense contractor in Ellison’s state. My employer was executing a contract for the US Army, and had invited our junior Congressman to come for a visit to see what we were working on.
My company was a major employer in the Twin Cities, which pumped millions of dollars annually into the Minnesota economy. Yet the first words out of Congressman Ellison’s mouth weren’t to thank us for the work we were doing, or ask how he could help. As he shook my hand, he looked me in the eye and said, “Campaign money is what makes politics work in this country. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”
The implication was clear. If we wanted our Congressman’s support, it had a price tag, and he expected his quid before there would be any quo. Within days of touring our facility, Ellison returned to Washington and lobbied to kill our contract. Perhaps we didn’t get our checkbook out fast enough to qualify for “constituent services.”
In fairness, the Congressman didn’t ask for a bribe. He is a lawyer after all. He asked for “campaign donations,” which I believe is a term of art in the “money for influence” biz. Regardless of the terminology used, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that we’re now learning that he was soliciting campaign contributions in exchange for “constituent services” for the Feeding Our Future fraudsters. As I said: that’s who he is.
The amount of taxpayer money stolen by grifters in Minnesota is estimated to be as high as $8 billion (with a “B”). The crime underway has been brazen and extensive. Yet Minnesota’s top law enforcement officer hasn’t prosecuted a single case. It rather makes one wonder what counts as “constituent services” in AG Ellison’s office, no?
Unfortunately, Keith Ellison is who the good people of Minnesota chose to be their top law enforcement officer – a “public servant” with his hand out (palm up) during any discussion of his duties, regardless of whether his audience is a legitimate business or a brazen criminal. The oath he swore on Thomas Jefferson’s Quran is as meaningless as a promise from Joe Biden.
BTW: I’ve had two instances in my life where shaking a person’s hand made my skin crawl. One was Keith Ellison and the other was someone you wouldn’t know. In both cases, it was as if my “gut” was warning me: Put as much separation between yourself and this yahoo as possible.
