With the kidnapping of Maduro of Venezuela and the intent on seizing that nation’s natural resources, President Donald Trump has now firmly set his sights on Greenland.
And he has openly stated that he’s willing to secure Greenland for the United States by force of arms.
Greenland is a self-governing province of Denmark. While it governs itself internally, its foreign and trade policies are established in Copenhagen. Denmark is part of NATO, and so therefore is Greenland. And yet here is an American president, as the leader of the key member of NATO, threatening another NATO ally with military force if he doesn’t get what he wants.
To put this in perspective, the evil Vladimir Putin (aka “Putler”) has consistently denied any Russian claims on Europe and NATO nations. He has repeatedly stated that Russia’s only goal in Ukraine is to have a neutral, nonaligned, non-nuclear state along its longest western border. For years, Russians have watched NATO creep steadily eastward, closer to Russia’s borders. Yet, despite this, Putin has made it clear repeatedly that he has no intentions to wage war on NATO.
And yet, here we have an American president openly threatening the very thing that so many in the West attempt to accuse Putin of wanting. What is even more astonishing is that Trump is demanding territory, rich in various minerals, as security against possible Russian… and Chinese (!?!) naval incursion against the east coast of the United States1… the same argument that Putin makes regarding the Donbas and Ukraine.
What irony! This farce is too rich beyond words!
As for NATO, I now believe that it is time for the United States to end its relationship with Europe, and for Europe to tend to its own problems and defense. Yet, I would never seriously advocate waging war on Europe and the rest of NATO, though I did indeed pen a snarky article about such a fantasy.2
Sadly… so sadly… President Trump has fallen completely under the sway of the Neocons that he placed in foreign policy positions. He started with such promise, only to slip away into the Neocon abyss. And these Neocons, sensing that their grip on the world is slipping away, are becoming increasingly unhinged and reckless.
Perhaps this entire episode is a ploy, a stratagem to get the United States out of NATO for good. After all, Denmark’s prime minister recently stated that any military attack on Greenland by the United States would be the end of NATO as we know it. Or perhaps this stratagem goes even deeper. Perhaps Trump really is a Russian asset (!), and he’s doing the “Putler’s” bidding to destroy NATO and conquer Europe. Maybe Trump’s advisors read my snarky article and took it seriously!
But regarding these possibilities, I seriously doubt (especially the latter!). Virtually ever politician I know, with but a couple of exceptions,3 are vain, arrogant, egotistical narcissists, who have loads of personal charm but far less brains than their positions of power would normally demand. They are easily deceived and manipulated, and Trump is no exception. They don’t possess the gray matter to think deeply into any situation, save for thinking deeply into somebody’s pocket looking for loose change. This is why they need good, conscientious advisors to help guide them, and not the riffraff of globalist Neocons.
What we are now seeing is the open descent of the United States into the status of a rogue superstate, determined to take whatever it wants, however it wants, and damn the rule of law. And if Neocons are willing to openly cast off the rule of law when dealing with foreign nations just to grab their stuff, just imagine how they will treat you and me, citizens of these United States, when they want to take whatever they want here at home.
Perhaps we now need to take the advice of the prophet Amos, who told us that when the righteous are seriously distressed, that “at such a time the prudent person keeps silent, for it is an evil time.” (Amos 5:13)

3And these exceptions I call statesmen, not politicians. Calling them the latter would be a grave insult to their integrity.
Ok folks… an update…… Now we are hearing that the Trump administration is looking at giving Greenland’s residents a “cash buyout” (one source says up to $100,000 per person) if they will vote to secede from Denmark. Let’s put this in perspective… the current administration is going to directly engage in election interference in another country (an ally at that) AND engage in “vote buying” to secure the result they want.
It is immaterial how much you or I may like Donald Trump and many of his policies. This proposal is precisely the same interference we accuse other nations of doing to us, but even worse… because it is completely out in the open (one can at least admire Trump for transparency!). And to make matters worse, the administration is proposing to buy votes in another country’s election process.
Imagine Japan offering cash to ethnic Japanese in the United States to vote a certain way…. or perhaps China… offering Democrats $100,000 to vote for Gavin “Twosome” Newsom!
Welp, if the Trump admin takes over, there goes my dream of opening a Somali-themed daycare center in Greenland. I guess I’ll have to pivot to Plan B – a high speed rail system to ????……
Funny! A Somali daycare in Greenland? Now THAT would be interesting to see!!!
Perhaps I could interest you in a high speed rail system to the two peaks of Kilimanjaro?
