Some weekends are about business. Some weekends are about golf. And then there are weekends where surviving another biological assassination attempt, fighting through CPAC, dodging the media, and still finding time for cigars, Old Fashioneds, and American grit all come together.
This was one of those weekends.
Front and center on THE Chuck’s table sat the unmistakable symbol of freedom and reflection: the Deployment Freedom Cigar, paired perfectly with a Woodford double oak neat because when you’ve just survived another round of CCP Democrat-sponsored Clostridioides difficile and Norovirus, you earn the good stuff.
President Trump spent the weekend blending high-level policy with golf at Mar-a-Lago and Trump International Golf Club, while THE Chuck was busy working the room at CPAC Dallas, recovering from a nasty gut punch, and still managing to knock out this column from DAL Airport with his lovely trophy wife Chrisi by his side.

Friday, March 27 – Bouncing Back & Working the Room Last week medical issues kept THE Chuck sidelined, but the CCP and Democrats tried once again to take him out with a vicious combo of C. diff and norovirus. Thanks to Dr. Melissa, the ER team at Columbus Riverside Hospital, the right meds, and some serious grit, THE Chuck bounced back in time to make CPAC Dallas.
While President Trump hosted the “Great American Agriculture Celebration” on the White House South Lawn and later headed to Miami for the Future Investment Initiative Summit (where he dropped the memorable line “Cuba is next”), THE Chuck was at CPAC working the room and the media area like only he can.
Business Lesson #1: Resilience isn’t optional. Whether it’s surviving a biological attack or navigating a tough market, the ones who get back up fastest win.
Saturday, March 28 – CPAC Networking & Conservative Firepower While President Trump played a round at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach in the morning, then returned to Mar-a-Lago for a MAGA Inc. meeting and dinner, THE Chuck was deep in cigar networking at CPAC.
Special thanks to JT a great conservative on loan from Texas and my SAE frat brother Bob Apke, who both helped knock out several articles over strong Old Fashioneds. We soaked in powerful speeches from the Prince of Iran, RFK Jr., Tom Homan, and Rev. Franklin Graham. The energy was electric.
Business Lesson #2: The right partnerships turn good ideas into great execution. Surround yourself with solid people, share a cigar and a drink, and watch the work get done.
THE Chuck’s humor? “Folks, if the CCP and Democrats can’t kill me with C. diff and norovirus, what chance do they have with bad policy? I’m harder to take down than a bad golf swing on the back nine!”

Sunday, March 29 – Airport Column & Trophy Wife Time Sunday morning, President Trump played another round at Trump International Golf Club before boarding Air Force One back to Washington, D.C., where he held a press gaggle and unveiled renderings for a new White House ballroom.
Meanwhile, THE Chuck started writing this column from Dallas/Love, enjoying a smooth Woodford double oak neat with his lovely trophy wife Chrisi by his side a proud South Carolina Gamecocks fan who was thrilled to see her team making a strong run deep into the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. Proof that even after a rough week, life still rewards the resilient.
Business Lesson #3: Balance matters. Work hard, fight hard, recover hard and never forget to enjoy the quiet moments with the people who matter most.
The Deployment Freedom Moment Even after a brutal health battle and a high-energy CPAC weekend, the ritual stayed the same: A Deployment Freedom Cigar, a proper Old Fashioned (or neat pour), and a moment to reflect on service, sacrifice, and the enduring American spirit.
This week’s pairing was simple but strong just like the message: Persistent, Constant, and half the battle is showing up.
Final Thoughts from THE Chuck This weekend delivered another full semester of Introduction to Business 101: Resilience. Networking. Leadership. Sacrifice. And yes a little golf.
Because enduring American grit isn’t built in comfort. It’s built in hospital rooms, crowded convention floors, airport bars, and on the golf course when the stakes are high.
So until next week… Keep your powder dry. Keep your swing smooth. Stay tough. And never forget why we fight one stroke, one puff, and one sip at a time.
THE Chuck
