A Christian teaching lesson on testing political ideas by the written Word of God
This lesson is not written to tell anyone how to vote.
It is written to remind Christians that our first loyalty is not to a political party, a social movement, a news network, a favorite politician, or a cultural tribe.
Our first loyalty is to the Lord Jesus Christ and the written Word of God.
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16 KJV).
So when any political agenda comes before us — left, right, Republican, Democrat, liberal, conservative, or anything else — the Christian must ask one question first:
What does the Bible say?
Not what does my party say.
Not what does my social circle say.
Not what does my favorite commentator say.
What does the Bible say?
Let us look plainly at several issues often associated with the modern left-wing agenda.
First: Abortion
The Bible teaches that life in the womb is known by God.
“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee” (Jeremiah 1:5 KJV).
“For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb” (Psalm 139:13 KJV).
The shedding of innocent blood is condemned by God (Proverbs 6:16–17 KJV). So any agenda that treats unborn life as disposable conflicts with Scripture.
Second: Sexual Morality
The Bible teaches that God created mankind male and female (Genesis 1:27 KJV).
Jesus affirmed God’s design for marriage when He said, “Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female” (Matthew 19:4 KJV), and then spoke of a man leaving father and mother and cleaving to his wife (Matthew 19:5 KJV).
At the same time, Christians are commanded not to hate people, mock people, or mistreat people. Every person is made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27 KJV), and we are commanded to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15 KJV).
So the biblical position is not hatred.
It is truth with compassion.
But compassion does not require Christians to deny what God has clearly said.
Third: Care for the Poor and Vulnerable
Here is where Christians must be honest. The Bible absolutely commands concern for the poor, the hungry, the stranger, the widow, the fatherless, and the oppressed.
“He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD” (Proverbs 19:17 KJV).
Jesus said that feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and visiting the sick and imprisoned mattered greatly (Matthew 25:35–40 KJV).
Pure religion includes caring for the fatherless and widows in their affliction (James 1:27 KJV).
So when the left speaks about helping the poor, Christians should not mock the concern itself. The concern is biblical.
The question is whether the method is biblical, honest, effective, just, and rooted in truth.
The Bible also teaches personal responsibility: “If any would not work, neither should he eat” (2 Thessalonians 3:10 KJV). It teaches family responsibility: “But if any provide not for his own… he hath denied the faith” (1 Timothy 5:8 KJV). And it teaches honest stewardship, not envy, theft, or covetousness (Exodus 20:15–17 KJV).
So yes, Christians should care deeply about the poor.
But we must do so God’s way.
Fourth: Immigration and the Stranger
The Bible commands kindness to the stranger.
“The stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself” (Leviticus 19:34 KJV).
That is Scripture.
But the Bible also recognizes nations, borders, law, and civil order. God “hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation” (Acts 17:26 KJV). Romans teaches that civil authority exists to restrain evil and maintain order (Romans 13:1–4 KJV).
So a biblical view is not cruelty toward foreigners.
But neither is it lawlessness.
The biblical balance is compassion with order, mercy with truth, and kindness with justice.
Fifth: Environmentalism
The Bible teaches that the earth belongs to the Lord.
“The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof” (Psalm 24:1 KJV).
Man was placed in the garden “to dress it and to keep it” (Genesis 2:15 KJV). That means stewardship is biblical.
Christians should not be careless with God’s creation.
But environmental concern becomes unbiblical when it turns into fear-driven worship of creation instead of the Creator. Romans warns about those who “worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator” (Romans 1:25 KJV).
So stewardship is biblical.
Creation worship is not.
Sixth: Race, Justice, and Partiality
The Bible condemns partiality.
“Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty” (Leviticus 19:15 KJV).
God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34 KJV).
The Bible teaches that all people descend from one blood (Acts 17:26 KJV), and that in Christ, people from every nation, kindred, people, and tongue will stand before God (Revelation 7:9 KJV).
So racism is sin.
But replacing one form of partiality with another is not biblical justice. Scripture does not call Christians to judge people by skin color, ancestry, tribe, or political category. It calls us to judge righteously (John 7:24 KJV).
Seventh: Crime, Punishment, and Mercy
The Bible teaches mercy.
“Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy” (Matthew 5:7 KJV).
But the Bible also teaches justice.
Civil authority is called “the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil” (Romans 13:4 KJV).
So compassion for prisoners, addicts, and broken people is biblical. Christians should desire repentance, restoration, and redemption.
But excusing evil, refusing to punish crime, or allowing the innocent to suffer because leaders will not restrain wickedness is not biblical mercy.
It is injustice.
Eighth: Religious Liberty and Free Speech
The apostles were commanded not to preach in the name of Jesus. Their answer was clear:
“We ought to obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29 KJV).
Christians are commanded to preach the Gospel (Mark 16:15 KJV), contend for the faith (Jude 1:3 KJV), and speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15 KJV).
Any political agenda that pressures Christians to remain silent about sin, salvation, marriage, life, judgment, repentance, or Jesus Christ is in conflict with Scripture.
We are to be respectful.
We are to be peaceful.
But we are not commanded to be silent.
So what is the conclusion?
The modern left-wing agenda contains some concerns that overlap with biblical values, especially concern for the poor, the sick, the stranger, and the mistreated.
But several major parts of the agenda conflict directly with Scripture, especially on abortion, sexual morality, gender ideology, religious liberty, and any worldview that replaces God’s truth with cultural approval.
A Christian must not ask, “How can I make the Bible fit my politics?”
A Christian must ask, “How must my politics submit to the Bible?”
That applies to the left.
That applies to the right.
That applies to every one of us.
If we are more loyal to a political movement than we are to the Word of God, we need to repent.
“Choose you this day whom ye will serve” (Joshua 24:15 KJV).
As for me, I choose the Lord Jesus Christ.
