“The Bible You Never Learned: Eden, Rebellion, Jesus, and the Real Story God Told”
A Five-Part Series for Christians Ready to Read the Bible as the Authors Wrote It. Not what your Sunday School Teacher told you!
After the flood, God again commands humanity to “fill the earth” (Gen. 9:1). Instead, humanity gathers at Babel and says, “Let us make a name for ourselves” and “lest we be scattered” (Gen. 11:4). This is open rebellion. Babel is the first attempt at global government independent of God—centralized control, unified language, human exaltation. It is humanity trying to reverse God’s plan and replace divine rule with human empire.
God’s response is shocking. He does not simply scatter people. According to Deuteronomy 32:8–9, He disinherits the nations, assigning them under the authority of lesser divine beings (“sons of God”). This worldview explains paganism, idolatry, territorial spirits, and the spiritual battles in Daniel (Dan. 10:13, 20–21). God keeps one nation—Israel—for Himself.
This act frames the entire Old Testament. Israel is God’s counter-kingdom, His plan to reclaim the nations He disinherited. The calling of Abraham in Genesis 12 is God’s response to Babel: through his offspring, “all nations will be blessed” (Gen. 12:3). In other words, God’s plan is to reclaim the world from both human and supernatural rebellion.
Babel is not a children’s story about pride. It is the third great rebellion, the climax of human defiance. Eden is lost. The Watchers corrupt. Babel unifies humanity into an anti-God kingdom. From here forward, Scripture is a rescue mission. The nations are under other gods (Ps. 82). Israel is God’s special people. And the Messiah will reclaim the world.
If you cut out Babel and the Deuteronomy 32 worldview, the Bible collapses into moralism and geopolitics. But Scripture shows a cosmic war between Yahweh and rebellious gods ruling the nations (Ps. 82:1–8). Israel is not chosen because God likes her better—it is because she is the launchpad for world restoration.
Babel sets the stage for Jesus. The nations are lost. The imagers are scattered. Humanity is fragmented. But God promises Abraham a seed who will restore all things. The Bible becomes a story of reclamation, not escapism. And Jesus will reverse Babel piece by piece.
