Idiocracy Is Here And It’s Worse Than We Expected

Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) is real, and the Stalinist show trial being conducted by the Democrats in the House of Representatives is exhibit “A” for that. However, TDS shows up in unexpected places as well. Just recently I took part in conversation with several former military officers, and it quickly became apparent that they were suffering from severe cases of TDS! They were vehemently bashing Trump for his terrible foreign policy moves, especially his rejection of the Iran nuclear deal. Given the fact that the Iran deal was terrible and allowed the Iranians to develop a nuclear weapon, even though it was supposed to stop them from developing a nuclear weapon, it was a shock to hear self-proclaimed conservative Americans blasting Trump for leaving the deal. So, what gives? Was Trump really a detriment to America’s foreign policy and standing in the world? Or are these self-proclaimed conservatives allowing their TDS to cloud their judgment?

The argument against Trump is based on a few specific issues; the Iran deal decision; tariffs of China and other nations; his demands that Europe pay more for their own defense and stop cozying up to Russia; his refusal to play ball with the Palestinians; and his border policies, which forced our Latin American neighbors to control illegal immigration or face reduced US foreign aid. In the eyes of our professional State Department bureaucrats and our top military political hacks (e.g., Lloyd Austin and Mark Milley) Trump did everything wrong. He was demanding and antagonistic rather than compliant and free with American cash. He was explicit that his top priority was protecting America’s interests, but also that it was in America’s interest to have a world free of violent conflict and predisposed to compete peacefully and fairly with other countries. He also made it clear that countries who acted in an unfriendly fashion toward America would suffer consequences, and that included our allies. That attitude was as shocking as it was unprecedented in the post WW2 era. The rest of the world had become accustomed to America being the global version of Daddy Warbucks. America was so rich and powerful that it made no difference if our allies failed to pay back loans, meet financial commitments under ratified treaties, or violate trade agreements to the detriment of our economy and especially our manufacturing sector. Daddy could afford it!!

Then Trump showed up and took away the punch bowl. He told China he was sick of them stealing our intellectual property and dumping goods in our country while restricting our companies from exporting to them. He blasted the EU for violating trade agreements, failing to live up to their commitments to NATO, and allowing Russia to control their energy supplies. He lambasted Iran for cheating on their nuclear deal and supporting global terrorism, and the Europeans for doing business with an outlaw regime. Then Trump cancelled the deal as he had promised to do during his Presidential campaign. Trump also marginalized the corrupt and violent Palestinian government while helping Israel sign deals allowing air transit over Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. Those were deals that the professionals at the State Department claimed could not be done until after Israel made peace with the Palestinian government. Trump also pushed Latin American countries to stop enabling illegal immigration (some nations were providing bus service to the US border for illegal immigrants) and start enforcing their own laws against illegal immigration. Trump also started building a wall and forcing immigrants to stay in Mexico. Here’s a quote from a Wall Street Journal article: 

“The Trump administration argued Remain in Mexico was necessary because it reduced incentives to migrate, as those making asylum claims wouldn’t be allowed to live and work in the U.S. while they wait for their cases to be resolved, a process that routinely took years. Monthly border crossings fell by about 75% in the six months following their peak in May 2019, when the program was expanded border-wide.“

These moves were all decried forcefully by the media, the Demonrat Party, and various RINOs who all condemned Trump’s approach as heavy handed, lacking in nuance, and contributing to hostility and disrespect from our allies and other countries around the world. Of course, the critics never provided concrete examples of how they were able to divine that those countries were feeling more hostility and disrespect for America. We were supposed to accept their words as gospel. A much better indication than left wing media opinion would be to look at the results that were produced when Joe Biden came into office and tried the opposite of the approaches that Trump took. It is a not a pretty picture. Since Biden returned to the friendly Daddy Warbucks approach, the Chinese have a taken to threatening military action against Taiwan on a regular basis, are supporting Russia during its illegal war in Ukraine, have stepped up military spending, and are still lying and refusing to cooperate in terms of finding out how the COVID pandemic originated in China, a premeditated catastrophe that has cost the planet trillions of dollars and millions of lives. On the other side of the globe, the Europeans allowed the Russians to gain control of their energy supplies which made it very difficult for the leaders of those nations to stand up to Russia before it invaded Ukraine. Just as predicted by Trump, the European approach of cozying up to Russia has backfired. Their reaction is to start trying to do exactly what Trump told them they should do 4 years ago. Meanwhile, Biden has been completely ineffective in his diplomatic efforts with Russia. So much for thinking being Mr. Nice Guy would pay off with Russia.

Back in the Mideast, Biden has engaged Russia to help us work a new nuclear deal with Iran. The utter stupidity of that decision is manifest to anyone with a brain, i.e., anyone who is not like Joe Biden. That is not working, and all indications are the Iran has speeded up its nuclear development program significantly. My military friends blame Trump for pulling out of the treaty, but they give Obama a pass for signing the terrible deal in the first place; the Europeans for enriching the Iranians and themselves by doing business with them as soon as the deal was signed, thereby saving the Iranian economy from collapse; and the Iranians themselves for being cheats and supporting terrorism. Meanwhile, Trump’s support of Israel has paid off in a big way, and the West Bank and Gaza are unusually peaceful these days. However, you can count on the Democrats to start attacking Israel politically in the very near future. Members of “the squad” will surely lead the charge with their mindless anti-Semitism.

In almost every way one can measure it, America’s standing in the world has deteriorated under Biden. India’s Modi and the country loved Trump:

Now, India is supporting Russia in the war in Ukraine, and India is not happy with Biden’s desire to remove tariffs on Chinese goods. China is also supporting Russia in Ukraine despite Biden trying to sell out to China, and China is continuously threatening Taiwan militarily, diplomatically, and economically. Meanwhile, the Europeans, who supposedly hated Trump, are doing EXACTLY what Trump urged them to do 4 years ago, but it took a Russian invasion of Ukraine to make them want to do it. Currently, they are dragging their heels at supplying the aid to Ukraine that Biden is requesting. The Germans have been especially tight fisted and recalcitrant. How can this be? After all, we got rid of that mean, bullying Trump and replaced him with a senile Mr. Rogers type. That should have cleared the field for true professionals in the military and the State Department to work their magic. Everyone should be in love with us now! Instead, they are back to telling us to pound sand and looking after their own short-term interests while allowing us to pay the lion’s share of the burden of the Ukraine war while leaving us to face down China alone. Apparently, using a softer gentler touch did not do anything except give them a green light to once again exploit us and take our cash without giving anything in return. Could it be that Biden’s debacles in Afghanistan and now Ukraine have convinced our allies that he is an easy mark and they are now fully prepared to take advantage of him? Hard to say, but one thing is certain, they treated Trump and America with more respect during the Trump administration.

About the only good thing one can say about the Biden administration foreign policy is that it is lousy, but not even close to as bad as his domestic policies, assuming that he is trying to help America. While our allies overseas show either contemptuous opposition or grudging cooperation with us in response to Biden’s inept foreign policy, his domestic agenda has the American economy and society in marked decline. His hallmarks are energy shortages, food shortages, baby formula shortages, labor shortages, a buying power shortage (inflation), unsafe cities, rampant illegal immigration, terrible race relations, a drug overdose epidemic, a federal government on the verge of a financial crisis, a military struggling with major recruitment issues, crumbling infrastructure, and an education system that is failing to produce graduates with the skills our economy needs.

What is going right? Well, the SCOTUS nominees picked by Trump handed conservatives a tremendous victory, and Americans of all races, creeds and colors are resoundingly rejecting the Demonrat race baiting campaign. If the Roe v Wade decision galvanizes conservative turnout, and the continued decline of living conditions in American Demonrat cities moves the stalwart Demonrat base to abandon Demonrat candidates this fall, Americans might have a very happy holiday season this year. If not, even my TDS addled friends might suffer enough to admit that Trump was a far better President than Biden. Given how much they have seen so far without changing their minds, their conversion back to common sense is not a safe bet. That is scary.
