Throughout our Nations history, a history filled with remarkable advances by man and unfortunately, some troubling stumbles, our Nation has had religious freedom, while not necessarily embracing religious freedom and the practice thereof.
During the Civil War, both sides prayed to the Almighty, that they might prevail. Both sides had days of fasting, days of prayer, gatherings to demonize the other side and to ask for victory to advance a righteous cause. Such is the anatomy of man, believing that God works for him.
Abraham Lincoln was different. He called for a Day of of National Humiliation, Fasting, and Prayer toward the end of March 1863, a period when the armies were preparing for the summer season of battles and carnage following the winter encampments.
“But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us, and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us.”
Perhaps even with religious freedom, perhaps we today have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace. What does that mean? Perhaps it means that we are no longer humble in front of the great majesty of Love, our Creator.
When we speak of following the science, what does that mean? Who is the science, who created the science, who defined the science and why cannot we understand the science? Science is merely the creation of God and to understand science is to search for the truth and the truth is God. Is that so hard a concept?
Religious Freedom is a God-given right, a right that allows man to think, to pray, to sacrifice and to acknowledge that there is only one being that knows all the answers, and it is not man. Religious Freedom is the realization that all men are mortal and that at some time, they will face the judgement of God, regardless of the judgements of fellow man.
Religious freedom is the embrace of the truth, not some insane theory that promotes the power of man, a concept that the Colonies rejected over 400 years ago. Religious freedom is knowing that we can improve and provide better service to our fellow man, not through government, but through each other and our ministry to mankind.
This Nation was founded on that principle of religious freedom for it was acknowledged that better people would emerge to lead this Nation, people having the humility to recognize a superior power, a power based on love. The Framers understood that a righteous man needed guidance, a path, a light in order to stay centered in protecting the basic God-given rights of the citizens of this world.
A simple question – is there a prohibition on prayer before a football game? When the Wisconsin atheist group threatens to sue a city, a town or a school for allowing the free exercise of religion, is that a violation of the 1st Amendment, especially when the federal and state courts uphold their “right” to sue? When the courts uphold the right, is that not equivalent to “making a law”?
This Nation has lost religious freedom for we do not practice religious freedom, we do not promote unity, fairness, or equality under God. The golden rule is lost to using the correct pronouns. Disagreements are classified as hate crimes. We laugh at politicians who are liars, the people responsible for never passing laws that are just, created with wisdom and applicable to all. They keep getting elected and the masses on the receiving end of the meek largess are happy.
Religious freedom implies a universal moral code of conduct, yet that code has been replaced with secular reasoning, that anything goes. That code of conduct is truly self-based, without acknowledging the rights of others. The teachings of the Savior never promoted such ideas, indeed, the teachings promoted self-reliance, thankfulness and sharing the bounty with those less fortunate.
It is time for another awakening, an awakening that encourages goodness and service towards others. It is time to recognize that the nuclear family must be encouraged. It is time to realize that there is a single race, the human race and that as there are different colored eyes and hair, the same applies to skin. It is time to acknowledge that God created Adam and Eve, period. The proof lies in all other mammals created – they are male or female.
Sadly, the wickedness of humans is not only displayed in the torture of people, it is in promoting gender dysphoria in innocent young children, as if that is a physical truth.
Yes, this Nation has religious freedom and with that freedom comes a responsibility to man. That responsibility is the recognition that this great Nation was created with the blessings of Nature and Natures God. This government was created knowing that imperfect men required boundaries, the greatest being the fear of everlasting damnation. And we as citizens must hold elected and hired civil servants accountable to those high ideals of justice for all.
Jefferson and Madison worked together on the Virginian Freedom of Religion Act, opening with
“Whereas, Almighty God hath created the mind free,” and following “That Truth is great, and will prevail if left to herself, that she is the proper and sufficient antagonist to error, and has nothing to fear from the conflict, unless by human interposition disarmed of her natural weapons free argument and debate, errors ceasing to be dangerous when it is permitted freely to contradict them:”
It might seem that Freedom of Expression is an integral component of Religious Freedom, and you would be correct.

Your question about someone suing a city or state to stop the free expression of religion, at a ball game, says that the freedom of religious expression is gone. when someone can force others to not freely express themselves, that alone, is an abridgment of freedom, not just religious freedom. It all goes together.
What one can do about that is go on and pray, out in the open, and let them try to haul you off to jail.
Anyone who would make the attempt to take your rights away, any of them, are known as tyrants, regardless of who they are.
For four hundred years my family has practiced various forms of Christianity here, and will likely continue to. Maintaining this heritage requires little internally, but more externally. Others must find strength which resides within. Cowering and weakness serve little – acknowledge sin, move on, wisdom hinders a return to sin and so does duty to society.
