Parody As a Political Weapon Part LV

…Down by the sea a blanket party awaits…

Previously, in Part LIV, there was a brief departure from the realm of song parody as there was an examination of exactly what or where Joe Biden’s “United States of Kamara” might be. This week, we return to the music comfort zone, and take a look at what can happen when the borders of the United States of America are not enforced.

As all who visit this site are likely aware, since January of 2021, our southern border with Mexico has been besieged by throngs of people from Central and South America and across the world who enter our country illegally, and then turn themselves over to US Border Patrol with invalid requests for asylum. Unlike the Trump administration, which diminished this practice significantly with its “Remain in Mexico” policy, the Biden administration has been allowing these illegal aliens to enter and stay in the US while their claims are adjudicated, and has been dumping them in border communities and/or shipping them to other undisclosed locations throughout the US under the cover of darkness. Thus far in the current fiscal year due to end this month, there have been more than two million illegal migrant encounters by the Border Patrol along the US-Mexico border.

As this glut of what Emma Lazarus deemed the wretched refuse from other teeming shores began far outstripping the resources in the border states and communities, resourceful governors such as Greg Abbott of Texas and Doug Ducey of Arizona began to share their bounty with our nation’s capital in Washington, D.C. , and later New York and Chicago. As these democrat-run, Biden-voting cities were among those announcing and celebrating their status as illegal alien sanctuaries during the Trump administration, when the flow had been diminished significantly, these bus runs gave the cities an opportunity to put their money where their mouths were. In addition, border “czarina” Kamala Harris has been given an opportunity to learn the ”root causes” of this lawless migration. The wailing and gnashing of teeth of the mayors of these sanctuary cities could be heard throughout the land.

In response to this whining, and never one to be outdone by his fellow republican governors, Ron DeSantis upped the ante by flying about 50 asylum seekers into Martha’s Vineyard, the exclusive virtue-signaling island enclave in Massachusetts where Barack Obama maintains a multi-million dollar summer home (at least until the rising ocean level brought on by global warming causes the angry sea to reclaim this property). The wealthy residents drove the Welcome Wagon in the HOV Express Lane, and within 48 hours gave both warm welcomes and goodbyes to the 50 or so wannabe refugees, who were evacuated by the quickly activated Massachusetts National Guard in an amphibious operation that put the Anzio landing to shame.

Critics of the republican governors, including the Biden White House, called the highly publicized relocation operations a political stunt, and have demanded or launched class action suits and criminal investigations in response to these highly effective maneuvers. Of course, as was noted at this site, if these migrants are being used as political pawns, they are being played masterfully.

Of course, it has long been accepted in show business that one of the problems with the best stunts is that they can only be performed once.

Still, anyone familiar with decades of Daffy Duck should also be aware that anything done or said once is worth doing again and again,

and Governor DeSantis is rumored to be in the process of sending another planeload of asylum seekers to Delaware. While the Sussex County locations discussed in the article have long been home to large volumes of both legal and illegal Central American immigrants due to the chicken processing and other agricultural plants in the region, Biden has extended the invitation to Governor DeSantis himself to visit at Delaware’s beaches, which has for several years been a destination for numerous Eastern European guest workers in the resort hotels, and where the current occupant of the White House maintains a beach house in Rehoboth.

Of course, at the shore line, the next biggest attraction in Rehoboth is its boardwalk, which is picturesque, but pales in comparison to what is found in Wildwood or Atlantic City, NJ; or Coney Island in New York. It was the latter type of structure that was immortalized by Resnick and Young in the Drifter’s 1964 hit “Under the Boardwalk”. I have borrowed the tune, and used it to instead memorialize the failed Biden border policy and the reaction to the republican response.

Oh, when the wall comes down and it starts with word of mouth
As the caravans form and the call goes out down south

Millions of folks sneaking in to our country

Then in Martha’s Vineyard will they complain

(Down at the border) and now the mayors will all cuss
