Do we Belong to Different Classes?

You say we belong to different classes, sir? 

Truly I agree. As it was and as it were, let me tell you what that means to me. 

 

You look down upon my friends and you look down upon me. 

You think that wealth means everything and that wisdom is folly. 

  

I have walked through Gypsy villages and shown mercy to the destitute. 

I did so even when I was certain that the mother of 10 was a prostitute. 

 

I have stood guard in towers, while counting the hours, for an attack that we knew was coming. 

It wasn’t an attack on us, but on a brother to a friend, someone we didn’t even know. 

While the mortars rang some rifles sang and they tried a lethal blow. 

We stood. They ran. And we saved that man we didn’t even know, 

With the crack of bullets flying by, and of automatic rifles humming. 

 

Sir, your self-worth is found in those with whom you associate.  

For us, our self-worth is found in those we try to liberate. 

For both of us, our character is found in those we venerate. 

  

You venerate the powerful and the rich, 

Without regard if the venerated person is a bitch.  

It only goes to show your insecurity as you feel you need others’ approval. 

But sir, we only value the purity of those who stand with courage for the removal 

Of threats from people who are greedy 

Or of assaults from people who are needy 

Of the power that you seek. 

 

So let me speak. 

Plainly. Perhaps inanely, but not insanely… 

Yes, sir, we are of different classes. We are in a class that you abhor.  

But when the dangers arise, it is us who you adore. 

 

What you don’t know is that judgement is not one-sided. 

“Thank you for your service, sir,” while your fear is not abided. 

But “You’re a troglodyte and a wretch” when you feel safe and secure, 

As you coddle up to the cowards who got riches and status by the pains that we endure. 

 

If you think we do not see these things, if you think you sit in judgement,                              

Just know that we never forget these things, and see yourself in judgement. 

 

We empowered you. We protected you. We gave you your opportunity. 

But if you think you’re better than us, you best rethink your fortuity. 

 

The truth is that we are here. We are watching. We don’t think all of you are cowards. 

But if you think you of a superior class, then you can look towards 

 

Nothing.  

 

Yes. Nothing. Because we won’t diminish ourselves to confront bitches. 

We only fight those worthy which is— 

 

We’ve fought the real fight and we’ll just look on you with contempt.  

You think you’re better than us, but you also thought you were exempt 

From judgement and scrutiny, because you’re arrogant assholes 

Who would only have what you have by the sacrifice of some heroes. 

 

So, yes, we are of different classes. 

We have honor, sir, and you are asses.
