The usual suspects are strangely silent on the Nichols case. I wonder why?
It hit me a few days back. What’s up with Tyre Nichols?
I reviewed the case earlier this year, with my opinion the actions of the officers were wrong and wrong under current law. I also observed the race baiting industry was in full swing, and the officers would likely be overcharged initially, with the DA hoping to flip someone to squeal on the other defendants.
Well some things are going as to be expected.
City of Memphis, police chief oppose effort to delay lawsuit in Tyre Nichols case
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Criminal charges should not delay a lawsuit against former Memphis officers accused in the fatal beating of Tyre Nichols, the city and its police chief argued in court filings.
Former officers Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley and Emmitt Martin III asked a federal judge in June to put on hold the $550 million lawsuit filed by Nichols’ mother that blames them for his death and accuses police chief Cerelyn “CJ” Davis of allowing a special unit’s aggressive tactics to go unchecked despite warning signs.
The three officers have pleaded not guilty to criminal charges including second-degree murder in the Jan. 7 beating of Nichols after a traffic stop — and his death three days later… Caught on police video, the beating of the 29-year-old Nichols was one in a string of violent encounters between police and Black people that sparked protests and renewed debate about police brutality and police reform in the U.S…
…Three Memphis Fire Department emergency medical technicians who were fired for failing to render aid to Nichols as he struggled with his injuries also are defendants in the lawsuit. They also oppose a pause in the civil case.
I have to say the murder charge is IMHO slightly elevated, but the DA needs something to trade with. Understandable, you never know what you get with a jury, even if you poison the pool like was done with Chauvin case.
Plus the Merrick Garland “Just-Us” department is “investigating” (i.e., conducting an inquisition) of the Memphis Police, at the “request” of the mayor and police chief. And the “reverend” Al Sharpton put his two cents in when a judge blocked release of additional video, saying, “To tell the public you will release more evidence and then pull it back at the 11th hour only causes more frustration for a city still reeling from this senseless killing.”
Sharpton’s knowledge of the law is more worthless than his knowledge of the Scripture. Al, in case you don’t know it, the defendants are guaranteed a fair trial by an impartial jury of their peers. “Public frustration” cannot overrule constitutionally protected God given rights for the defendants.
Looking again, what is not happening here? Where is the federal “Just-Us” department with constant statements on how the Memphis police department has no purpose but to harass, assault and murder black men? That’s all they could say about Minneapolis Police since May 2020. No question Memphis Police will be forced into a consent decree, but why is the DOJ not constantly updating the press etc. on the progress of their investigation? BTY, where is the local US attorney explaining how they will pursue federal civil rights charges against the five former cops?
Where are the terrorist group Black Lives Matter (except to other blacks) or Antifa, tearing up downtown businesses and homes? It’s not like they have to worry about losing a job if they fail to show up for work. This would seem to be a perfect case for them to riot, destroy millions of dollars of property and rape and murder people. So where are they?
Also, why is this not on the national news every night like Trevon Martin, Michael Brown, or George Floyd? Why is NBC?CBS/ABC et all not putting up daily updates from Memphis on how the case against the defendants is going, and encouraging the rent-a-mobs to come on down as the case is pending?
We know the answer. Because the defendants are all black. Yes, I said that. This doesn’t fit the template of America as a “fundamentally” racist nation, or policing is at heart racist. Simplistic and wrong you say? Well, when people have point out blacks can be racist, the national race baiters have announced it’s not what you think but if you have power that matters?
From the Huffington Post:
Some people simplify racism as one group not liking another and think “racist” and “prejudiced” are interchangeable. But racism is a concept that operates on both an individual and institutional level.
At its core, racism is a system in which a dominant race benefits off the oppression of others — whether they want to or not. We don’t live in a society where every racial group has equal power, status, and opportunity.
OK, a bit difference from a more objective source, the Encyclopedia Britannica:
Racism, also called racialism, is the belief that humans can be divided into separate and exclusive biological entities called “races”; that there is a causal link between inherited physical traits and traits of personality, intellect, morality, and other cultural and behavioral features; and that some races are innately superior to others.
Am I being crazed in my opinion. Just this morning I read an article from National Review on a use of force lawsuit against the Dallas Police Department. I live just down the street in Houston, but I’ve never heard a word about this:
Trial Begins for Cops Involved in George Floyd–Like Death of Tony Timpa
Tony Timpa died in custody of Dallas police in 2016 while suffering a mental health emergency. Officers kept Timpa pinned face down to the ground for more than 14 minutes.
July 17, 2023
Nearly seven years after a white Dallas man died under a police officer’s knee — in a case that bears a striking resemblance to George Floyd’s death in 2020 — a civil trial is expected to kick off on Monday to determine if the officers who held him down bear responsibility.
Tony Timpa died in August 2016 after he suffered a mental-health breakdown and was pinned to the ground for more than 14 minutes with a police officer’s knee in the center of his back.
Like Floyd, Timpa was a large man who’d taken drugs before police held him on the ground in the so-called prone position. Like Floyd, Timpa cried out while he was being pinned down — “You’re going to kill me,” he told the officers. And as in Floyd’s case, the officers did not attempt life-saving measures, even after Timpa appeared limp and lifeless…
Allow me to say it. It’s not a big deal because the dead man is white. BTY, Mr. Timpa said during the incident he was on cocaine and the ME said the cause of death was, “toxic effects of cocaine and physiological stress and physical restraint.”
Unless an unexpected acquittal in the Tyre case can be used as a diversion for a future Biden scandal (Hunter has to have more blow somewhere in the West Wing or another knocked up hooker), or another example of America’s inherent racism, I don’t see the Memphis trial being broadcast from the courtroom. Doesn’t fit the template. But that won’t stop the race baters from trying to profit off of it and divide America with it.
