During the early voting in our county, we took an exit survey of Republicans, Democrats and Unaffiliated voters. On national policy the question was, “What do you consider the greatest concern at the national level?” The answers below came from 126 Republicans, 58 Democrats, and 69 Unaffiliated.
Republican concerns were Border/Immigration, 68%; the Economy 19%; Anti-Biden, Anti-Trump, Foreign Affairs 3% each; Other 4%. Unaffiliated voters cited Border/ Immigration 38%; Anti-Trump 25%; Foreign Affairs 15%; Other 12%; the Economy 10%. Democrat voters were Anti-Trump/Democracy 32%; Border/Immigration 16%; Foreign Affairs 11%; Abortion, Economy, Gun Control 8% each; Other 17%.
Obviously, President Trump still lives in the heads of many. The mainstream media all suggest he will trample on democracy. He will set loose the forces of government in order to destroy our individual liberties and freedoms. He will act as a dictator and squash the common people. There is much pulling of hair and gnashing of teeth. But gee, I don’t remember him doing any of that from 2017-2021.
In fact, the Border and Immigration were controlled. We were Energy Independent. Sanctions were restored on Iran. Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthiis were quiet. China was quiet. NATO was starting to pay their share of organizational cost. The Abraham Accords were a giant step to peace between Arab and Jew. Putin, after his initial venture into Ukraine in 2014, under Obama, was quiet. The US median household income grew, inequality diminished, and for the first time since WWII Black Americans saw poverty drop below 20% while the Black American unemployment rate fell below 6%. Our military was respected. The Economy was surging. And the country was again feeling the exceptional potential of America. Then the pandemic hit and the gains that were achieved began to reverse. Joe Biden was elected and let’s see what happened.

And this was but after eleven months. There would be more to come.
As House Oversight Subcommittee Chairman Grothman stated on April 16, 2024, “The Biden Administration’s open border policies have led to the worst border crisis in American history.” (oversight.house.gov) The Strategic Oil Reserve is the lowest since 1983 which some consider puts national security at risk. (EID, 1/24/23) Bidenomics is based on false data points. (budget.house.gov, 6/26/23) We are engaged in a proxy war with Russia. China and the Mexican cartels are shipping poison through our borders. (Reuters, 4/12/24) Migrant encounters have increased the last three years, 70% are single men, and the backlog for the immigration court system is over 3 million cases. (CBP data) It is estimated that 600,00 are “got-aways.” Prices and Inflation keep rising. Supply bottlenecks are made worse by Iranian proxies. Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas are seeking Israel’s genocidal elimination. Vaccine mandates caused over 8,000 service members to be dismissed or separate and only 43 have returned.(CNN, 10/2/23) The mandate is now rescinded but it negatively affected recruiting. (Marine Corps Times, 12/5/22) The military is built on trust, and how much of that was eroded?
Then Biden politicized the Department of Justice against a political foe. Raiding his house and jailing his supporters. Contrast the treatment of the J6 offenders with BLM and Antifa who attempted to burn down a federal courthouse in Portland. Who inflicted millions of dollars in damage and on lives in Minneapolis, MN. On tape a great number of J6ers were ushered into the Capitol building, yet the FBI is still arresting people three years after the fact–for trespassing.
Although 114 Capitol Police officers were hurt the only people who died or were killed were protestors. Harsh punishments and lengthy pre-trial detentions have been administered. (Politico, 3/1/24) While those who caused damage should be prosecuted, those who were simply naive and did nothing, DOJ prosecuted in the same manner. American justice?
The FBI and IRS have directed their political attention toward conservatives, parents and the Catholic church. The CIA targeted Trump associates prior to the 2016 election. (NYPost, 2/13/24). The military is seen led by politicized “czars,” more than leaders. (militarytimes.com/news/your-military/2022/12/01/politicization-contributing-to-americans-low-trust-in-the-military) As to Joe’s character, I have no confidence in a President who lies concerning personal experiences and policy issues. Who is incapable of speaking coherently with foreign leaders. Who routinely stumbles both physically and oratorically.
Returning to the first paragraph, has Joe been a good steward? Has he enabled “solutions (to) help secure our nation’s homeland while respecting freedom and enabling the economy to prosper.” Or has he acted like a dictator in order to bring about the country’s “fall from grace”? To bring his political foes under heel? I pray that conservative principles will be restored in 2024 and that we will return to being a “shining city on a hill” rather than a San Francisco-like slum. But it all depends on the voters’ critical analysis of what’s going on. Will they do what’s right and vote America over Party? Our fate is in our hands. That’s what built our constitutional republic.
