Powerless and Terrified? Welcome to the Human Condition.

There’s nothing quite like the gut-wrenching realization that you are not in control of the world. You can hustle, plan, vote, save, and fight, but at the end of the day, your power is a fragile illusion. Governments collapse, economies tank, loved ones die, and no matter how much kale you eat, you’re still marching toward death. The real kicker? Humans will never escape this existential panic—at least, not until they recognize the truth Jesus laid out for them. Until then? Enjoy the fear and torment of Satan’s playground.

Humans desperately try to convince themselves they are in control—whether through wealth, knowledge, or self-improvement. We invent governments, social movements, technology, and therapy, all in an attempt to create some semblance of power over our fate. But surprise! It never works. Even the richest, smartest, and most powerful people on Earth eventually crumble under their own insignificance. We are like hamsters on a wheel, running furiously to nowhere while pretending we are making progress. Meanwhile, Satan is watching, laughing, and keeping the fear alive.

Jesus, on the other hand, offered an actual escape plan. He didn’t tell people to chase power, control, or self-reliance—He told them to surrender. “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Jesus knew humans were powerless—but He wasn’t. He didn’t promise a utopia or a government that never fails—He promised eternal security, a kingdom that never crumbles, and a victory that was already won. The catch? You have to accept that you can’t save yourself. And that’s a little too humbling for most people.

So, instead of embracing Jesus’ radical, freeing truth, most people will cling to their delusions of control. They’ll keep trusting in money, political leaders, scientific advancements, and self-improvement books, thinking they are one step away from mastering their own fate. Meanwhile, fear, anxiety, and existential dread will keep gnawing at their souls, because deep down, they know the truth—they are powerless. And Satan? He’s happy to fuel that terror, keeping them trapped in an endless loop of seeking, failing, and fearing.

The good news? You can step off the hamster wheel anytime. You can admit that you were never meant to carry the weight of the world and accept the peace that Jesus offers. Or—you can keep pretending you’ve got it all under control, while life continues to rip that illusion to shreds. Your choice. But if you’re feeling overwhelmed, powerless, and exhausted… maybe it’s time to consider that Jesus was right all along.
