The Fall and Rebirth of the American Economy—With a Slice of Snark; Part 1

Ten Outrageous Truths About America’s Broken Economy

Let’s cut the nonsense. America’s economy isn’t “booming.” It’s wheezing along like a three-legged mule in a horse race. Here are ten brutal truths your politicians, media blowhards, and corporate overlords hope you never fully grasp:

  1. Retirement? Hah! More Like Die-at-Your-Desk.
Around 30% of Americans expect to work until they die (Northwestern Mutual, 2023). Why? Because wages have flatlined while costs exploded. So unless you plan to moonlight as a lotto winner, don’t count on golden sunsets—just golden arches.
  2. Your Parents’ $100K Is Your $243K.
That cushy $100K salary from 1990? You’d need $243,000 today to match it. But don’t worry—you’ll still get “thanks” and a pizza party for your trouble.
  3. Student Loans Flow Freely, Small Business? Forget It.
Banks will hand an 18-year-old a six-figure student loan without blinking but tell a would-be entrepreneur “no thanks” on a modest $20,000 business loan. Because apparently turning young people into debt serfs is more profitable.
  4. Daycare Costs More Than Rent—Because Why Not?
In most states, daycare will bleed you dry faster than your landlord. Want to work? You’ll pay through the nose just for the privilege.
  5. Taxpayers Save Banks; Banks Shaft Taxpayers.
We bailed them out in 2008. They thanked us by charging 25% interest on credit cards. How generous.
  6. Gen Z: Poorer, Sadder, Stuck.
Compared to Boomers at the same age, Gen Z has 80% less wealth. And no, avocado toast isn’t the reason—it’s systemic.
  7. AI is Coming for Your Job.
At least 25% of jobs are at high risk of AI takeover. But hey, maybe the robots will pay taxes. (Spoiler: They won’t.)
  8. Entry-Level Now Means Already Experienced.
“Entry-level” jobs routinely demand 2-3 years of experience. It’s like asking someone to swim before they’ve seen water.
  9. Schools: Obedience Over Innovation.
Our schools were designed to churn out obedient workers for factories, not creative thinkers. Mission accomplished.
  10. A Degree Costs More Than a House in 1980.
Today’s college tab can top $200,000, more than a 1980’s home. Degrees may open doors, but they also chain ankles.
