Trump And The Nobel Prize

President Donald Trump did not win the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. That is legitimately not unexpected.

As I type this on Monday morning, I’m listening to Senator Ted Cruz’s podcast Verdict with Senator Ted Cruz. As they were recording the program (0130-ish eastern time), the Israeli hostages were just being released. By the end of the show, the first seven were reportedly in Israeli’s hands. Good news for a Monday.

Senator Cruz mentioned how he almost spit his coffee after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton praised President Trump for this deal. I must say, I was wondering if I forgot to stop drinking last night. From the NY Post:

Hillary Clinton heaps rare praise on President Trump for handling of Israel-Hamas peace deal: ‘I really commend’

“I really commend President Trump and his administration,” Clinton told CBS News 24/7 Friday.

“As well as Arab leaders in the region, for making the commitment to the 20-point plan and seeing a path forward for what’s often called the day after,” she added.

Clinton’s comments came just a day after Hamas agreed to Trump’s peace plan in a stunning move that is expected to end the two-year war that’s ravaged the Gaza Strip.

Clinton — who argued for a two-state solution as Secretary of State under former President Barack Obama — encouraged the Trump administration to buckle down and hold Israel and Gazans accountable to the terms of their deal, as well as the rest of the world.

“Let’s now support this process and bring it together, not just in a nonpartisan way in our own country, but literally internationally as a great global commitment to try to bring peace, security, stability and a better future to the Middle East,” Clinton told CBS.

She also praised the Trump administration’s shrewd move to bring Israel to the negotiating table after Hamas leaders were attacked by Israel during peace talks in Qatar in September.

“That provided an opening for both President Trump and his representatives to marshal all of the regional powers, including, of course, Qatar, but also to make it clear to Israel, ‘No, this is now enough. We cannot continue this. This conflict needs to end, and we’ve got to move on,” Clinton said…

I better check if I’m starting my scotch and cigars at 0500 or 1700.

Now Senator Cruz did criticize the Nobel Committee for not awarding the Peace Prize to President Trump. God knows there is a precedent for it (Anwar al-Sadat and Menachem Begin 1978, or Yasser Arafat, Shimon Peres and Yitzhak Rabin 1994). With all due respect Senator Cruz, your criticism is off.

Give the devil (the Committee) its due. The cutoff for 2025 Peace Prize nominations was January 31, 2025. In all fairness Donald Trump was only president for 12 days by this time. And they did actually award the 2025 Prize to an extradentary woman, Maria Corina Machado, “for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”

This is unlike 2009, when, in the greatest example of a participation trophy in history, they gave a statue to Barrack Obama for “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.” Even after all these years, reading this I need to check how much whiskey is in my coffee cup. I was shocked Obama didn’t channel his inner Sally Field, “You really like me!”

I have no doubt a nomination is being prepared for President Trump for the 2026 Prize. Now I really question if they will award it to him because the Committee hates Americans, unless the same Americans really hate the US. See Jimmy Carter and THE ALGORE. I know Bill Clinton seethes thinking, “Where is my participation trophy?”

Will they actually award the prize to someone who’s brought peace to multiple areas (e.g., the Abraham Accords) of the world? Let’s just say I have more faith in the National Football League voting my favorite quarterback, Drew Brees, into the Hall of Fame next spring. You can rely on the NFL doing the wrong thing. Same with the Nobel Committee.

Well done Mr. President and Prime Minister Netanyahu. Also, graduations to the staffs under these great gentlemen who made this happen.
