Depending on the way the question is worded, a plurality or a majority of Americans support executing criminals, particularly mass murders like Hasan. But the media hates it and politicians in 35 states succeeded in banning it. Indeed, while the law commands executing people, governors are reluctant to do so for fear of public reaction by the elitists.
As I have said many times before, I am opposed to capital punishment. We should not kill anyone unless it is absolutely necessary, and if we have a prisoner securely and permanently confined, to the point he is unable to resist his execution, then he is sufficiently helpless enough that it is no longer necessary to kill him.
A society’s commitment to justice is measured by how it responds to its gravest offenses. When the most abhorrent crimes occur—acts so vile they shatter the very fabric of humanity—justice must be swift and certain.
A carpenter is only as good as his tools, and the state’s toolbox looks increasingly unreliable for capital punishment. F
