Con Tankerus Ruminates on Ukraine

For your reading pleasure, some musings of a former US attack helicopter pilot with relatives on both side of the Ukraine – Russian Border.

There are lots of ideas and desires to do something for and about the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Here’s one recently presented as a possibility: I do know that the Korean War was, in fact a United Nations authorized action, can we not just use this past practice to counter Russia physically?

Well, Korea was a UN conflict because the USSR was protesting the UN and was not there the day of the Vote. So, they couldn’t override it.  China was represented by Nationalist China on Taiwan and were against Communist aggression. Neither are the case today.

Another possibility could be: Someone has also stated that the UN should have this authority.  I am not sure what legal move / Treaty Bush used for Desert Storm, but there were quite a few countries involved- Can we use his path?

The Desert Storm Model.  Yes, possible if we had a leader, and a recognized a national security interest, and countries willing including ours.  The unmentioned cost of militarily tying ourselves down since 2001 and ending with the grace of a fart, we seem to have little stomach left for expending our youth for other countries.  

A further thought: There are those among us that want to support the Ukrainians with more than just word, money, and equipment.  But there seems to be some sort of “Justification” Hurdle.

What more is there than word, money, and equipment? No one is stopping the willing from getting on an aircraft and joining in.  Emotions make a bad strategy.  There was an Eagle squadron of Americans in the Battle of Britain before Germany declared war on the US along with selling Tanks, Aircraft, Vehicles, Small Arms.

How about: To me, this is an obvious invasion of a peaceful country by a powerful neighbor.  I thought this was supposed to be a thing of the past based on all the Treaties and World-wide Organizations we have today.  How can such a travesty not be immediately responded to with a unified force?

The Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama Globalist new world order was not subscribed by everyone on the planet.  There are at least 2 National Socialist countries that have different ideas than the Global Corporate Socialists.  How not immediately responded to with a unified force? When has that happened? Korea. We responded with TF Smith and the UN call, to pull in others, then feared a Nuke war when the Chinese intervened.  Notice the similarities. Let’s presume the administration and other countries recall that lesson.

One more idea: They are not part of NATO, but we need to be prepared should one of our members do in fact get attacked?

NATO ready: In my opinion here’s where the Trump administration and the Badin (not a typo thank you) administration have worked together.  Trump told them you need to spend resources to provide for your defense, Badin is showing them you need to spend resources to provide for your defense.

NATO has been a solely localized defensive Alliance up until Afghanistan. 

Finally: To me, this is an obvious invasion of a peaceful country by a powerful neighbor.  I thought this was suppose to be a thing of the past based on all the Treaties and World-wide Organizations we have today.  How can such a travesty not be immediately responded to with a unified force?

There are key actions I believe should be started immediately, that I fear will not. Moving European forces eastward. Positioning in depth. Western Continental Europe coming up to required spending. Pumping, piping, shipping North American energy. Economically isolating Russia until the all forces are removed from invaded territories.  

Talk is cheap smart actions speak louder.

I appreciate the possibilities presented by a fellow West Point graduate for an opportunity to offer some thoughts and con tankerus ideas.
