Don’t Blame Me, I Voted for Trump

There is a sign in my neighborhood that says, “Don’t blame me, I voted for Trump.” That is how I am feeling these days. Right now, gas prices are increasing, there is talk of a worldwide wheat shortage this coming year (since Ukraine and Russia are both major suppliers of wheat) and the increasingly real possibility of World War 3. I cannot help but wonder what would have been different if Trump were president.

No one can say for sure if Putin would have invaded Ukraine if Trump were still president yet 62% of Americans think that Putin wouldn’t have. Whether it is because of his “America First” policy or because he was willing to bomb the bejeezus out of his enemies or even just that he was not the typical, predictable politician, Putin might very well have hesitated to attack during Trump’s term. Regardless of whether or not Putin would have attacked though, I know some things would have been different if Trump were still president:

First of all, Trump would have ended the crazy mandates sooner and been more concerned about the economic impact of Covid policies than Biden has been. So, we wouldn’t be starting from a place of higher inflation that Biden caused by ineffective leadership. Instead, we would be a country that was already back to work as the invasion of Ukraine happened. Starting from lower prices would have been helpful. Further, if Trump were president, we would still be energy independent and wouldn’t be as impacted by the volatility of the Russia-Ukraine War. In fact, we might have been in a position to help Europe overcome their reliance on fuel from Russia so they wouldn’t be stuck in the position of financing the war on their neighbor and paying to increase the instability of their region. When we talk about America being in a position of strength, that is what we mean.

Second, we are possibly looking at significant wheat and other agricultural product shortages worldwide as Ukraine’s fields and infrastructure are destroyed and their people displaced. Russia is also a major exporter of wheat and it’s possible that their supply or, at least, their exportation of wheat may be less this coming year. Neither Russia nor Ukraine are major suppliers to the United States, but they do supply wheat and other agricultural products to a lot of less stable countries which could increase conflict there. As a businessman, I think Trump would have been on top of the supply/demand issue and would have already been working to prepare U.S. farmers to help with the expected shortage. I have heard nothing from the Biden Administration about this.

Third, I am a mother and I certainly don’t want my sons fighting in a war Some people are already claiming that the Ukraine-Russia War is the beginning of WWIII. If it hasn’t already started, everyone agrees it is much closer of a possibility than it was a month ago. As stated in a previous article, I am not sure if our current policy of not engaging but supporting Ukraine will keep us out of war with Russia or if it is only increasing the inevitability of that future war, but I do feel that the Trump Administration was better equipped to manage that difficult task. The ineptitude of the Biden Administration, which was on full display during the Afghanistan withdrawal, is obvious except to only the most dedicated of Liberals and the complexity of Russian aggression is clearly beyond Biden’s capability. This might be best proven by the two presidents’ responses to Germany and Russia’s pipeline deal. President Trump warned Germany not to become too dependent on Russia for energy and even went so far as to call the deal “inappropriate” that Germany would pay billions of dollars to Russia for energy and yet expect the U.S. to protect Germany from Russian aggression. On the other hand, President Biden acknowledged the fact that the pipeline was a threat to European security, yet he chose to remove the sanctions anyway. Biden only succeeded in setting the board for Putin to invade Ukraine a year later.

My personal life has been affected by irresponsible Biden Administration policies on many different levels. But the thought of my boys coming of age during a worldwide conflict is, by far, the worst.

During the last presidential election, there were many women like me – the quintessential suburban soccer mom (hockey mom, actually!) – but that didn’t vote for Trump. Some held their noses and voted for Biden and some abstained from the vote altogether. These are the women who are judging anyone who voices a concern about rising gas or food prices. These are the women who have changed their social media pictures over and over again to virtue signal about what excellent people they are (supporting masks, vaccines, transgenderism, Ukraine) These are the women who think we should charge in there and save all those Ukrainian children at the cost of American men and kill our babies for their convenience. These are the women who cost us another Trump term.

To these women, I say, “Don’t blame me, I voted for Trump.” And as for me–who, exactly, should I blame?
