Political Parody As a Weapon Part LXX

Political Parody As a Weapon Part LXX; A day that will live in infamy of one kind or another.

In Part XIV, our last segment, we examined a stain from the D.C swamp that should soon be eliminated. This week, we examine a different kind of a stain on our culture and our country, most recently identified in the birthplace of this nation and its cradle of liberty.

This week marks the 81st anniversary of the sneak attack on the American Naval base at Pearl Harbor and other military facilities in Hawaii on December 7, 1941 that dragged the United States into the Second World War. At the time, newspapers and radio were the primary source of news for most of public, with newsreels viewed at the movies providing the only film record of events generally available.

Also at the time, newspapers printed special extra editions announcing the assault and the state of belligerency that it brought on with special enlarged headlines announcing “WAR!” The story of the treacherous sneak attack by the armed forces of another nation on our sovereign nation resulting in the death of thousands of US servicemen and dozens of civilians was considered to be the definition of news, as well as history. Organizations that defined themselves as such covered the events with great alacrity.

In current times, consumers of information have so many additional outlets purveying their stories on a constant 24/7 news cycle. In addition to network and cable news sites, the internet also provides opportunity to inform or misinform viewers. Newsreels at the movie have diminished significantly in their significance, in large part because these other more relevant entities have replaced them as visual media. Traditional newspapers are also diminishing in their significance, perhaps in part because the organizations that staff and publish them have abandoned the traditional theoretical roles of unbiased journalism, and twisted them instead into leftist advocacy organizations in the stories they choose to cover or ignore.

Most of the largest US newspapers and wire services seem to display a current lack of interest in covering stories that reflect assaults on the sovereignty of this nation, such as two million foreign nationals unlawfully crossing our border in the past year. Also largely ignored are the potential First Amendment violations by government entities such as the Biden White House or the Federal Bureau of Investigation revealed by the documents released by Twitter or uncovered by the America First Legal and other lawsuits.

Of course, those paying attention to events nearly thirty years ago are aware that not only are leftist journalists no longer supportive of America and its role in the World War II, but large cabals of historians caved to the leftist influence in academia, and tried to turn the Enola Gay exhibit into a critique of American “imperialism” and Cold War policy, while at the same time forgiving and excusing actual imperialism by Japan, including their role in inviting the US to retaliate by attacking us first.

In light of this, I think it might again be interesting to review the events of December 7, 1941 as they may have been covered by our current “news” organization with all of their implicit biases, making up what Rush Limbaugh used to refer to as “the drive-by media.”

As such, here are some examples of what we might have read in newsprint at the time if the current team of editors and reporters at The New York Times was putting out their December 8, 1941 edition:

HAWAII ERUPTS!

TERRITORY OF CONFUSION REIGNS

The native communities of the Hawaiian Islands cowered in terror as US military forces occupying their lands inexplicably opened fire with ship and land-based anti-aircraft guns this Sunday morning. More than one hundred civilian casualties have thus far been identified, primarily in the impoverished indigenous and Asian/ Pacific Island immigrant communities that primarily serve as a pool of laborers for the territory’s minority white colonizers.

Further contributing to the chaos of events was the noise generated by numerous unidentified aircraft swarming in the skies over Oahu and the militarized body of water known as Pearl Harbor. Witnesses claim US Army Air Corps and Navy fighters shot recklessly at the visiting aviators, causing objects to fall from their planes with explosive results at ground and sea level. While some observers speculated the activities may be a poorly-supervised and executed training exercise, others suggested it could be a xenophobically paranoid response to airborne undocumented immigrants exploring new opportunities for a better life.

Unconfirmed rumors circulated that the target of US military aggression were representatives of the Japanese government, checking on the welfare of their citizens and nationals in Hawaii, currently under the domination of US colonialist military occupation. Attempts to confirm this with the Japanese Embassy in Washington, D.C. were unsuccessful, as staff claimed to be busy with other matters. Attempts to contact US Navy and Army public affairs in the territory by telephone went unanswered as well, and traffic jams at the entrance gate prevented further investigation.

Of course, anyone who has observed today’s journalists is aware how they travel in a pack and favor advancing a chosen leftist narrative. Even then, they colluded to cover up the handicaps of the democrat president. As Biden is purportedly an admirer of FDR, had the latter been more like the former, a response might have been a bit different as well. In light of this, were such a story to set the tone, it would not be difficult to imagine in The Washington Post, circa December 10, 1941, dealing with the aftermath of the events touched upon in the New York Times report, that a story such as this could appear:

COME ON, MAN!

FDR denies Japan poses a threat to the US

In a joint session of Congress, the American president denied Tuesday that the incident at Pearl Harbor was an act of war, or any other infamy.

“Yesterday, December 8, 1941, is a day like any other, as were the days that preceded it, with the exception of the behavior of some of our troops, who behaved like slave patrols on the air, land and sea. Japan has no interest in eating our lunch- they prefer raw fish with chopstick things. Those in our Army and Navy who acted poorly in this encounter will pay, and nothing with endanger our relationship with our neighbors in the Pacific Rim, as well as those with whom we share the Atlantic, including our friends the Germans, who rule beneath the waves”.

The president was believed to trying to placate the feelings of Japan, who suffered the loss of naval aviators and aircraft when poorly trained American military personnel opened fire on our western neighbor’s surprise flyover tribute, causing numerous civilian casualties and losses to taxpayer assets. Following this American violation of etiquette, hospitality and international law, the embassy of Japan delivered a declaration of war, but the White House has thus far chosen not to accept it. They are refusing to acknowledge the declaration of war by Japan’s allies Germany and Italy, and the president’s remarks are believed to be an entreaty to the European superpowers to enter negotiations to limit the development of “wonder weapons”, which the administration believes will destabilize the continent and elevate the conflict there, which is currently bogged down in conventional winter warfare.

Critics of the White House suggest that by ignoring the belligerency of our international rivals that the president is placing the US in a position of weakness, but thus far the Secretary of State has indicated that he is willing to swap ship tonnage for a chance at world peace, and a better, more equitable tomorrow.
