Russia, China and Iran-Running Rings Around Joe Biden

The U.S. is now paying the price for not understanding the strategic relationship among Russia, China and Iran and their interconnectedness.

We cannot isolate ourselves from reality nor can we expect a feckless foreign policy to serve as a deterrent. It failed in Afghanistan. It failed to deter Russia from invading Ukraine and it failed to deter Iran from attacking Israel via its proxy, Hamas.

Hamas doesn’t exist without Iran. Period. Iran is now effectively in a defense partnership with Russia and Russia’s operations in Ukraine benefit greatly from Iranian support–both militarily and economically. Last year, Russia, Iran and China participated in joint military exercises in Venezuela. The same three nations collaborated in joint naval exercises in the Gulf of Oman earlier this year.

Meanwhile, United States foreign policy shifted away from prioritizing our core national security interests, replacing them with social priorities.

Two months before the Biden Administration abandoned US citizens and surrendered the US Embassy in Kabul to the Taliban, the Embassy’s Facebook page obliviously touted “LGBTI Pride Month” in the overwhelmingly Muslim nation.

The net beneficiaries of Biden’s Afghanistan fiasco? Russia and China.

The fall of Afghanistan spurred further cooperation among America’s adversaries. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian recently met in Uzbekistan to discuss relations with Afghanistan and coordinate regional security.

Replicating the level of foreign policy obliviousness displayed in Afghanistan seems impossible, but the Biden Administration doesn’t disappoint.

Just days before Hamas’ unprecedented attack on Israel, Biden’s National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan confidently declared, “The Middle East region is quieter today than it has been in two decades.” Sullivan made this statement shortly after the Biden Administration announced the release of $6 billion in funds to the Iranian government.

Incredibly, Biden has yet to freeze the transfer of the $6 billion to Iran.

If Ronald Reagan’s foreign policy was described as “Peace Through Strength”, Joe Biden’s foreign policy is best described as “Chaos Through Weakness”—creating a world in which the bad behavior of foreign malign actors is encouraged by a lack of consequences. Ironically, this chaos resulted in achieving a perverse type of “equity”. Biden left behind Muslim Americans in Afghanistan and today, Jewish Americans are held hostage in Gaza.

It seems Biden or more likely the Biden Shadow Government—the people around Biden actually running the government–are going to manage this latest crisis like they managed Afghanistan and the border–which is to say poorly.
