Nestled in the heart of Northeast Michigan, the Thunder Bay Junior Air Rifle Team stands as a beacon of excellence, dedicated to nurturing gun safety, education, and competition among youth under the age of 18. As a non-profit organization, the team has benefited from amazing support from local volunteers, businesses and foundations. We are proudly affiliated with the prestigious Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), embodying the program’s values of skill development, sportsmanship, and marksmanship.

Theodore Roosevelt, a staunch advocate for youth involvement in shooting sports, once said,
“Every young American should be taught to shoot; for while this country has not been at war since the frontier days, such a state of affairs is liable to change at any time, and the ability to handle a rifle with effect is a necessary skill for every able-bodied citizen.”
This sentiment resonates deeply within the Thunder Bay Junior Air Rifle Team, we are not worried about National security, but enjoy the skill of “riflery.” Young athletes are not only honing their marksmanship skills but also imbibing invaluable life lessons, like discipline, goal setting and hard work.
At the core of the Thunder Bay Junior Air Rifle Team’s mission is the cultivation of a culture centered around safety, education, and competition. Through rigorous training, participants learn the fundamental principles of safe firearm handling, instilling a deep sense of responsibility and respect for firearms from an early age.
The team’s dedication and hard work came to fruition on Sunday, December 10th in Bay City, Michigan. In the recent Michigan State Championships, where out of our small
team of only 11 local shooters, all the top three medals were claimed by Thunder Bay Junior Air Rifle Team athletes. This remarkable achievement not only showcases the caliber of talent within the team but also reflects the commitment to excellence upheld by coaches and participants alike.
Setting their sights higher, the Thunder Bay Junior Air Rifle Team is now gearing up for the National Championships this summer at Camp Perry, Ohio. As they prepare to represent their community on a larger stage, the team is actively engaged in fundraising efforts to support their journey. Their vision is not only to excel in competition but also to inspire and motivate other young aspiring marksmen across the nation.
Behind every successful team lies a dedicated support system. The Thunder Bay Junior Air Rifle Team extends its gratitude to the local community, sponsors, volunteers, and families whose unwavering support fuels the aspirations of these young athletes.
The Thunder Bay Junior Air Rifle Team is not just shaping skilled marksmen; they are molding responsible, disciplined, and focused individuals who will undoubtedly make a positive impact in their community and beyond.
