The Day the Woke Mind Virus Infected the Pentagon: The Great Iraq Unit Patch Censorship

In a warzone filled with IEDs, insurgents, and actual life-or-death decisions, the U.S. Department of Defense somehow decided that the real priority in Iraq wasn’t winning battles—it was censoring the anatomically correct genitalia of an ancient Mesopotamian bull. That’s right. Under General Lloyd Austin’s leadership in Iraq, the United States Forces – Iraq (USF-I) logo—which featured a lamassu, an Assyrian winged bull—was deemed offensive because, well, it had all its parts. And just like that, the woke mind virus officially infected the Pentagon.

Instead of focusing on combat effectiveness or national security, bureaucrats and career officers dedicated actual time and resources to redesigning the USF-I patch so that no one would be subjected to the horrifying sight of a historically accurate bull’s anatomy. Because apparently, soldiers who could stare down enemy fire, drag wounded comrades from burning Humvees, and patrol hostile streets were simply too fragile to handle an ancient mythological creature with a penis. So, the Pentagon did what it does best: waste time, waste money, and cave to imaginary outrage.

Thus, a new, neutered version of the lamassu was born, sanitized for the delicate eyes of modern military leadership. The bull’s offending appendage was erased, ensuring that no one would ever again have to wrestle with the psychological trauma of a creature that has existed in Mesopotamian art for thousands of years. This was the moment when cultural relativism officially took over military decision-making, and Pentagon priorities shifted from warfighting to wokeness.

The irony, of course, is that Assyrians, Iraqis, and historians worldwide were probably laughing their heads off at this whole affair. The lamassu wasn’t some crude graffiti—it was a symbol of protection, strength, and resilience. But in 21st-century America, a place where feelings matter more than facts, we had to strip a historical emblem of its reality to accommodate imaginary outrage. The woke virus had fully embedded itself in the heart of the most powerful military in the world—and this was just one of the many signs to come.

So here we are, years later, reflecting on the legacy of America’s involvement in Iraq. The insurgency raged on, billions of dollars disappeared, and the Pentagon had far bigger problems to deal with—but at least we can rest easy knowing that no service member had to endure the soul-crushing experience of seeing a mythological bull’s genitalia. The terrorists didn’t need to take our freedoms or dignity—we did it to ourselves. And the Pentagon’s woke transformation was just getting started.
