Not All Humans Are Angels—But Are They Even Humans Anymore?

James Madison once famously said, “If men were angels, no government would be necessary.” The idea is simple: human beings are inherently flawed, prone to greed, selfishness, and the occasional bout of idiocy. Because of this, we need laws, structure, and accountability—otherwise, civilization would collapse into anarchy faster than a toddler’s birthday party without adult supervision. But in today’s culture, the problem isn’t just that humans aren’t angels. The bigger question is: are they even humans anymore?

Consider the rise of pansexuality, gender fluidity, and the broader rejection of biological reality. A few decades ago, being human meant recognizing basic truths: men were men, women were women, and no one needed a pronoun badge to function in society. But in the age of infinite identities, the very definition of humanity is being rewritten. Genesis 1:27 states, “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Yet today, people insist that “male and female” are outdated concepts—as if the Creator of the universe just wasn’t up to date on the latest TikTok trends.

This confusion isn’t just philosophical; it’s deeply political. Governments have historically existed to maintain order, but how do you govern a society where even defining what a person is becomes controversial? We now have policies that punish people for “misgendering” but allow child mutilation in the name of gender affirmation. We celebrate “diverse sexual identities” yet struggle to define the basic unit of civilization: the family. Isaiah 5:20 warns, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness.” In today’s society, we don’t just call evil good—we throw parades for it.

And let’s be clear: this isn’t progress. It’s not “love is love,” it’s love is lunacy. It’s not “freedom of identity,” it’s freedom from reality. When a culture abandons truth, it abandons humanity itself. The more we detach from God’s design, the more we detach from what it even means to be human. If we can no longer define a man or a woman, if sex and biology are just “social constructs,” then what separates us from a science fiction experiment gone wrong? Are we really any different from the Tower of Babel crowd, convinced we can build our own reality apart from God?

At the end of the day, Madison was right: humans aren’t angels, which is exactly why we need government. But when government stops governing reality itself, we don’t just lose order—we lose our very humanity. The question isn’t just whether men are angels anymore—it’s whether men are even men. And if we can’t answer that, no amount of government will ever fix what we’ve broken
