Modern Physics Increasingly Points To The Divine Hand Of A Creator (God) To Explain The Impossible “Coincidence” Of Our Existence

There Is Also An Emerging Alternative That Provides Evidence That We Are Living In A Virtual Reality

You read that right. A discipline that has seemingly created all manner of anti-religious propositions, suppositions and theorems can deny it no longer. Modern physics and practitioners (physicists of all categories) evidence a coming around to the recognition of how simply impossible it is that our universe and very existence came about by chance.

And if true-that life on earth, the structure and behavior of the entities in our universe, the continuing expansion of same-have impossibly precise attributes necessary to sustain things as we know them that defy occurrence through random actions, chance or happenstance (e.g., luck,) the conclusion from those facts points to the presence of a learned hand behind “everything:” a divine creator or God.

This Cosmological Argument has been offered by theologians-cosmologists-for a very long time. I’m not a physicist or scientist nor even very good at math. But I was a test officer and conducted tests and experiments for a living at different times in my life (about 7 years and scores of tests and experiments) and my degree in geography is with a minor in cartography and photogrammetry. To which I offer “big whoop.”

Germane to this topic is that when an obvious answer emerges out of testing and experiment trials through the population of data in measures of performance (quantitative) and measures of effectiveness (qualitative,) you strive to achieve the recommended sample size, and then you accept and report the results.

During a test of an unmanned aerial vehicle (in captured flight on an MIT Lincoln Labs Twin engine Otter) the radar under test employed an algorithm destined for the Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (JSTARS) intended to identify wheeled from track vehicles. The performance of the algorithm was ~53% correct over some thousands of opportunities over the conduct of a nearly month-long test.

Sugar coat and tout that result all you like, but no matter how much you champion the concept, the reality is I could do just as well with a coin flip as could be achieved with the algorithm, all things being equal: reality bites!

There are a number of mysteries of life that defy humankinds most advanced efforts to decompose them into an explanation that works without violating the heretofore solutions agreed upon as the prevailing baseline or primal understanding of our existence.

Learned humans throughout time have put forth all manner of dogma in the form of lectures, theories, philosophy, physics, etc., but as of 2025 the ledger remains murky and incomplete in solving the tippy top and lowly bottom explanations that might make sense of who and what we are and why we are here.

There must be some explanation for such mysteries that can be roughly plumbed betwixt and between physics, religion, mysticism and cosmology. The obvious problem being the belief system advocated by practitioners of these tongue-in-cheek black arts” mostly eschew being “nailed down” on any point that wanders outside the bounds of their often too tidy by half explanations, be they beliefs, guesses or theorems.

What is a mother to do? A frequent warning to be well remembered in innovation and technology (engineering) efforts is that one should not depend upon a “miracle” to explain or culminate a project. The same goes for a physical property, nature, the cosmos (cosmology) and most belief or faith-based systems (religions.)

Or as observed by the famous physicist Richard Feynam in a humorous lecture, you can start with a guess and if it is good enough it might last decades while proving impossible to totally either debunk or declare it “correct.”

In today’s iPhone and internet driven, ubiquitous tide-like cascading of news from all directions, it is not only easy but convenient for us to guess about things: we simply lack the time to corroborate “everything.” The pace of life and the volume of information coming at us makes us voracious consumers but lazy fact checkers to the point where we prefer the easy “guess” to the workmanlike act of fact checking.

Information services-the LSMBTGA-take advantage of this reality by spoon feeding exactly what they believe you want or need-or what they contrive-for you to hear. I was recently back east on a trip and was flabbergasted at the political tenor and overtones on the local news. Truly over the top somewhat subliminal propaganda dished out soft-serve style to the audience.

Did you know that politics-but only of the adversarial party- affects climate change and is causing sea temperatures to rise? It is apparently a fact: who knew…

In a previous article I described a program that squandered tens of billions of dollars along the way to termination that cheekily relied upon the achievement of two miracles and eventually foundered on the beach like a disoriented whale: after nearly six years and twenty billion dollars or 4x the original contract value.

I am getting too far over my skies already, having failed to define the specific mysteries of life I am referring to in my opening. The introduction of them won’t get better with time or verbiage, so here goes for two in particular and part of a third that many might recognize that I would like to expound upon in the ensuing discussion.

Many physicists and scientists et al have settled for a less than satisfactory tens of billions of years ago “Big Bang Theory” as the progenitor for all the universe has become. There was a huge primordial explosion and-viola-the universe as we know it came about and has been expanding ever since.

Which begs the question of what preceded it? What was there before this big bang? Teleologist scholars seemed relatively happy with this theory for a long time.

The second mystery is bound by the simple questions of why we are here and what we are to achieve in our time on earth. Oh, and what of the afterlife, reincarnation, heaven/hell/purgatory: those small matters.

An honorable mention goes to one of the maddening loose ends that has lingered long enough to upset the proverbial physicist apple cart, that pesky and mysterious photon that has defied finite characterization in trial after trial. Resulting in acknowledgement that it alternatively behaves like a particle or light, that is it exhibits attributes of both frequency or wave and has been documented in advanced theorems showing up in somewhat random places that defy beliefs, expectations and theory.

If that is not mysterious enough-defying finite classification, undermining the desire to definitively categorize it-physicists have acquiesced over a long time-amidst wailing and gnashing of teeth-that the results observed and documented through trials prove that what this photon does is related to the process of observation. The observer is an actor with a bit part in the results.

Supporting a conclusion that the observer is an elemental part or function of the trial results.

The first mystery is by far the easier of the two in terms of categorization due to its teleological nature: Who cares what was there before the big bang? Which is code for “who knows…” While the second requires more thoughts and discussion.

The honorable mention or “adder” is somewhat responsible for the near total annihilation and undermining of the basics of physics as we know it. Experiments with particles, light and photons go back centuries and yet physicists have yet to satisfactorily explain the behavior exhibited in straightforward experiments designed to corral this elemental particle: or is it light?

Branches of physics and cosmology (Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Physics, String Theory, physics Gauge Theory, Intelligent Design, Quantum Field Theory, etc.) have grown out of the mystery resulting from these trials that have only served to document the undermining of the heretofore theory(ies) postulated to describe the governing science.

Many have a loose familiarity with the infamous misbehaving photon that demonstrates features of both a particle and a light, alternatively exhibiting attributes of frequency and wave. Suffice it to say that this fundamental experiment has defied physicists best attempts to explain myriad trials that were undertaken with increasing desperation to make sense of the results of this seemingly straightforward mechanical experiment.

To belabor the obvious a mechanical process is one where we expect to produce boring results and bottle caps within tolerance. The remarkably inconvenient takeaway or bottom-line of these experiments confirms that the observer is an essential element to the results. What a horrific outcome to contemplate along the path of historically concrete science and physics dogma!

There are a number of well-respected references that explain the inconvenience such results portend for physics. Most are well-nigh unreadable for humans, having been constructed around the logic of physics and cosmology, perhaps best reflected in the old joke about prison and prisoners.

A new inmate (flipping new guy-FNG) was in the lunchroom with his cell mate when an inmate yelled out “7:” everyone laughed. Another called out “22” to more laughter. FNG asked what was going on and his friend explained that everybody knew all the jokes, so they came down with a number system. FNG thought about it and another called out “6” to raucous laughter. He finally mustered the courage and yelled out “15:” nobody laughed. A few minutes later he yelled “18” and again, nobody laughed. He asked his friend about it and he said, “some people don’t know how to tell a joke.”

Which is somewhat of a long way around explaining why the average reader is not going to research many of the best references applicable to gaining a baseline on the information and documentation that under girds these mysteries of life.

That may seem both preposterous and arrogant-flippant-I mean who wouldn’t want to enlighten themselves on such fascinating topics as the mystery of the photon behavior, or the question of why we are here?

One of the best references to get started in this quest is the iconic book The Anthropic Cosmological Principle (ACP.) Reader beware there are more equations (physics proofs) in this book than an advanced placement mathematics or statistics course.

The premise of the book is how the universe, our earth and very existence as humans results from what must be proof of divine intervention due to the narrow confines of the design of our environment in order to maintain continuity and to sustain life. A mere handful of parameters necessary to sustain existence as we know it that seem so impossibly correct as to be the furthest thing from random chance imaginable.

Like joke number “10,” recognition of these precise parameters in terms of cosmology and physics principles results in an understanding that the juxtaposition enables life as we know it. Our earth that many consider a globe or round but is in actuality an oblate spheroid due to the orbit regime and gravity and pressure and attraction in just the right measure that maintains its place in orbit in the universe-not too much, not too little-else we carom into other similarly orbiting elements whose very placement is held through similar “miracles-” is much more magical than appears given its attributes that enable its position and capability to support life.

It is not a book for the layman from the standpoint that if you don’t know the underlying jokes you won’t likely find the dialogue and discussion of where things fit, interesting. Particularly in light of that majorly irritating little factoid that thousands of years of philosophy, physics and science has been nearly paralyzed by that little rogue “photon” that won’t behave, comply or comport.

Much like the convenience of the “Big Bang Theory” that has been used to explain the beginning of all things and the continuously expanding universe. A theory based on beliefs no different than any other system of religion that gloss over critical-and often-inconvenient questions: then the miracle occurs.

An interesting discussion within the above reference is the chapter that discusses the ubiquity and commonality of societal beliefs about the universe and creation over the past several thousand years. Whether spiritual in nature, religious, evolutionary, mystical, mythical or otherly based, humans of all types over the ages have somewhat common beliefs about how and why we came to be here and what it portends when we cease to exist.

What of this notion of physicists rallying behind God? This article by FR Robert Spitzer-filed under Cosmology-How Contemporary Physics Points To God has perhaps the clearest explanation of the problem-or the solution (depending on your viewpoint) where he outlines the bottom-line:

(i) If the gravitational constant (G) or weak force constant (gw) varied from their values by an exceedingly small fraction (higher or lower)—even just one part in 10^50 (.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001)—then either the universe would have suffered a catastrophic collapse or would have exploded throughout its expansion, both options of which would have prevented the emergence and development of any life form. This cannot be reasonably explained by pure chance.

(ii) If the strong nuclear force constant were higher than its value (15) by only 2%, there would be no hydrogen in the universe (and therefore no nuclear fuel or water—this would have prohibited life). If, on the other hand, the strong nuclear force constant had been 2% lower than its value then no element heavier than hydrogen could have emerged in the universe (helium, carbon, etc). This would have been equally detrimental to the development of life. This “anthropic coincidence” also seems to lie beyond the boundaries of pure chance.

(iii) If the gravitational constant, electromagnetism, or the “proton mass relative to the electron mass” varied from their values by only a tiny fraction (higher or lower), then all stars would be either blue giants or red dwarfs. These kinds of stars would not emit the proper kind of heat and light for a long enough period to allow for the emergence, development, and complexification of life forms. Again, these “anthropic coincidences” are beyond pure chance occurrence.

(iv) If the weak force constant had been slightly smaller or larger than its value, then supernovae explosions would never have occurred. If these explosions had not occurred, there would be no carbon, iron, or earth-like planets.

(v) Fred Hoyle and William Fowler discovered the exceedingly high improbability of oxygen, carbon, helium, and beryllium having the precise values to allow for both carbon abundance and carbon bonding (necessary for life). This “anthropic coincidence” was so striking that it caused Hoyle to abandon his previous atheism and declare:

“A common sense interpretation of the facts suggests that a superintellect has monkeyed with physics, as well as with chemistry and biology, and that there are no blind forces worth speaking about in nature. The numbers one calculates from the facts seem to me so overwhelming as to put this conclusion almost beyond question.”

A spate of such articles exist online and each touts the somewhat remarkable conclusion of the 1986 ACP (The Anthropic Cosmological Principle) that the law of large numbers applies here in such a way as to preclude-to eliminate-coincidence in favor of deliberate engineering.

Myriad articles describe the same or similar obvious conclusions here, here, here, here, here among others.

What of our other mystery of life? That will be covered in part 2 and constitutes a true spoiler alert.

A teaser for those who can’t wait is that a physicist by the name of Thomas Campbell authored a series of three books called My Big TOE (Theory of Everything: Awakening, Discovery and Inner Workings) based on his out of body (OOB) experiences gleaned through work with the Monroe Institute of Virginia that he built into a unifying principle to explain our existence in terms of a Virtual Reality.

He explained his theory in an interview with Joe Rogan, which seemed to blow Joe’s mind since he apparently failed to do research on Tom and his work with Bob Monroe that laid the groundwork for his theory.

Author’s note. If you have not delved into or been exposed to physics principles or alternatively have been looking to get familiar with Artificial Intelligence platforms like “Chat GPT,” Musk’s “Grok” or “Copilot,” this is a perfect opportunity to combine the two with a simple query like “What is all this monkey business about a particle, photon and the issue of acting like a wave or frequency? You will be off to the races, and you can request an answer that is as simple-plain speak, or complicated-via math/theorems-as you desire!

Enjoy!
