In a brief statement at the Department of Justice on Thursday afternoon, Attorney General Merrick Garland announced he had personally signed off on the FBI’s request to seek a warrant to search Mar-a-Lago, former President Donald Trump’s Palm Beach, Florida, estate. He also revealed the DOJ had filed a court motion to unseal the search warrant that had authorized the raid along with the list of items agents had removed from the residence.
In a statement posted late Thursday night on Truth Social, his social-media site, Trump said he would not oppose the DOJ’s motion, according to multiple media reports.
In fact, according to The Wall Street Journal, Trump encouraged the warrant’s “immediate release.” He said his attorneys had been “cooperating fully” and noted, “The government could have had whatever they wanted, if we had it.”
USA Today reported Trump referred to Monday’s unprecedented action as an “un-American, unwarranted and unnecessary raid and break-in of my home.” He closed with a demand to “Release the documents now!”
“People familiar with the investigation” told The Washington Post on Thursday the reason for the FBI’s urgency was they’d received a tip that documents related to nuclear weapons were being stored at Mar-a-Lago.
The sources spoke on the condition of anonymity and did not provide any details about the information the FBI was seeking, if the relevant material been recovered, or which nation’s nuclear weapons the documents concerned, the report said.
David Laufman, the former chief of the Justice Department’s counterintelligence section, told the Post: “If this [allegation] is true, it would suggest that material residing unlawfully at Mar-a-Lago may have been classified at the highest classification level. If the FBI and the Department of Justice believed there were top secret materials still at Mar-a-Lago, that would lend itself to greater ‘hair-on-fire’ motivation to recover that material as quickly as possible.”
Color me skeptical. We’ve been down this road before with the DOJ and the FBI. These are the same folks who brought us the Trump-Russian collusion hoax.
This raid occurred even though Trump’s lawyers had been fully cooperating with attorneys for the National Archives and Records Administration on the return of the documents.
Fox Business News’ Elizabeth MacDonald spoke to former assistant U.S. attorney Andrew McCarthy on Thursday evening (before The Washington Post report was published). Noting the Trump team’s high level of cooperation, McDonald asked, “So, why do a raid with a battalion of 30 agents with machine guns over a record violation?”
McCarthy replied, “Because it’s not over a records violation.”
McCarthy said that despite Garland’s remarks earlier in the day, he believes the FBI is trying to uncover documents related to the Jan. 6 investigation against Trump, an opinion shared by many Americans. He told MacDonald, “The fact that they had a basis to seek a search warrant on classified documents gave them a legitimate reason to get a warrant under the law.”
It is telling that McCarthy, who once worked at the DOJ, doesn’t believe Garland. The outrage that has spread throughout America over Monday’s strong-man tactic is a sign that he is far from alone in that view.
We are repeatedly reminded that if the FBI finds evidence of another crime while combing through the documents retrieved from Trump’s home, it can be used against him. This tells me the Trump team will be fighting the legitimacy of this search all the way to the Supreme Court.
The politicization of the DOJ and the FBI began in the Obama administration and has continued to this day. It picked up pace once candidate Donald Trump appeared on the scene in June 2015. Many Americans no longer trust these once highly-revered institutions.
While politics has always been a scrappy arena, the reality of a President Donald Trump radicalized Democrats and brought them to a level of derangement few could have predicted. Consumed by an obsession to derail his candidacy and, failing that, to destroy his presidency, Democrats resorted to levels of depravity rarely seen in America. Seven years later, we’re living in a country we barely recognize.
The left’s endless pursuit of Trump and anyone associated with him is destroying our country, and no one has ever been held accountable because their cronies control the levers of power.
Hillary Clinton, who destroyed 33,000 emails that were under subpoena, was never prosecuted. And 51 former intelligence officers conspired to discredit the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop as Russian disinformation two weeks ahead of the 2020 presidential election. I could cite dozens of examples of the double standard of justice that has become the norm in America today.
Equal application of the law is the single most essential feature of a democratic republic. Without it, a nation cannot call itself a democracy.
Shortly after news of the raid broke on Monday night, in an appearance on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime,” an incensed Dan Bongino called it some “third world bulls**t.”
Sadly, truer words have never been spoken.

“…it would suggest that material residing unlawfully at Mar-a-Lago may have been classified at the highest classification level…”
The question that has not been addressed sufficiently is that unlike any other government official, the president is the highest classification level, and more importantly, the highest de-classification level. If he de-classified any or all documents while in office, what crime can the federal government be investigating?
If any docs turn up, the first words out of Trump’s mouth would be, “it was a plant by the FBI.” Given they have set him up before and acted unlawfully, the FBI’s culpability is a given.
“The sources spoke on the condition of anonymity”, which means it was a lie from the outset. The media is providing hokey cover for the criminals, their brothers and sisters in arms.
Taints their entire narrative. Trust is something one is given, when the other acts faithfully towards him. You can’t trust a bunch of people who use the cover of “Anonymity” to base a story or narrative on.
Justice Clarence Thomas was right, once again, when he mentioned that Sullivan needs to be re-visited, so that these poor liars can’t do this garbage.
Oh Noooosssssss….. the feckless bureau of incompetents must have found out about the secret ICBM silo at Mar-A-Lago along with that cache of launch documents….. I wonder, was it the 30-ton concrete blast cover door that tipped them off or maybe it was the FBI’s keen talents of observation, noting the 18 wheelers (with no insignia) that deliver something called MIRVs to Mr. Trump’s estate, or maybe it was the missile maintenance crews rotating in and out of the estate grounds.
Sure sounds like our boy and girl wonders saved the world from certain destruction when they raided and gathered all of those boxes of (alleged) classified nuclear related docs….
It’s a wonder that Christopher Robin Wray or Milquetoast Garland can look in the mirror without shame or regret or horror. And to all of those ‘agents’ who are not at the FBI leadership level – you’re no better if you don’t walk away from this corruption. Leave your badges on the table if you have to…. I’ll assume you did take the oath….
