This lesson is not written to tell anyone how to vote.
It is written to remind Christians that our first loyalty is not to a political party, a social movement, a news network, a favorite politician, or a cultural tribe.
Our first loyalty is to the Lord Jesus Christ and the written Word of God.
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16 KJV).
So when any political agenda comes before us — left, right, Republican, Democrat, liberal, conservative, or anything else — the Christian must ask one question first:
What does the Bible say?
Not what does my party say.
Not what does my social circle say.
Not what does my favorite commentator say.
What does the Bible say?
Let us look plainly at several issues often associated with the modern conservative right.
First: National Pride and Patriotism
It is not wrong to love one’s country. Scripture recognizes nations, peoples, and boundaries (Acts 17:26 KJV). Scripture also teaches that civil government has a God-ordained role in restraining evil and maintaining order (Romans 13:1–4 KJV).
But patriotism becomes spiritually dangerous when love of country rises above obedience to God.
The Christian’s highest citizenship is in heaven: “For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ” (Philippians 3:20 KJV).
America is a nation.
Jesus Christ is Lord.
A flag must never become an idol. A Constitution must never replace Scripture. A political movement must never become our gospel.
Second: Law and Order
The Bible supports justice, law, and civil order. Civil authority is called “the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil” (Romans 13:4 KJV). Scripture also condemns violence, theft, murder, and wickedness (Exodus 20:13–15 KJV).
So the conservative concern for law and order can align with Scripture.
But biblical justice is not selective. It is not merely punishment for people we dislike. Scripture says, “Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment” and commands that we not favor either the poor or the mighty, but judge righteously (Leviticus 19:15 KJV).
So Christians must support justice that is truthful, equal, merciful, and righteous.
Law without righteousness becomes oppression.
Mercy without justice becomes lawlessness.
The biblical standard is both truth and justice.
Third: Immigration, Borders, and the Stranger
The Bible recognizes nations and boundaries. God “hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation” (Acts 17:26 KJV). Scripture also teaches respect for lawful authority (Romans 13:1–7 KJV).
So it is not unbiblical for a nation to have borders, laws, and orderly immigration.
But Scripture also commands God’s people to show kindness to the stranger.
“The stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself” (Leviticus 19:34 KJV).
So a biblical view is not open lawlessness.
But neither is it cruelty.
The biblical balance is compassion with order, mercy with truth, and security without hatred.
Fourth: Wealth, Capitalism, and the Poor
The Bible affirms work, responsibility, private property, and honest labor. “If any would not work, neither should he eat” (2 Thessalonians 3:10 KJV). “Thou shalt not steal” (Exodus 20:15 KJV). Scripture also says, “The labourer is worthy of his reward” (1 Timothy 5:18 KJV).
So the conservative emphasis on work, responsibility, and property rights has biblical support.
But Scripture also gives strong warnings to the rich.
“Woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation” (Luke 6:24 KJV).
“Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you” (James 5:1 KJV).
The Bible condemns greed, oppression, dishonest gain, and indifference to the poor (Proverbs 14:31 KJV; James 5:1–6 KJV).
So capitalism is not automatically righteous.
Wealth is not proof of God’s favor.
Poverty is not proof of moral failure.
Christians should support honest work, but we must also care for the poor, the widow, the orphan, the sick, the disabled, and the vulnerable.
Fifth: Military Strength and War
The Bible recognizes that government bears the sword to restrain evil (Romans 13:4 KJV). Soldiers are not told by John the Baptist to stop being soldiers, but to do violence to no man falsely, accuse no one falsely, and be content with their wages (Luke 3:14 KJV).
So national defense and military service are not unbiblical.
But Christians must never glorify war, cruelty, vengeance, or bloodshed.
Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God” (Matthew 5:9 KJV).
Scripture says, “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men” (Romans 12:18 KJV).
Military strength may be necessary in a fallen world, but it must never become bloodlust, pride, or worship of power.
Sixth: Gun Rights and Self-Defense
The Bible recognizes the reality of danger and the need for sober preparation. Jesus told His disciples, “he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one” (Luke 22:36 KJV). Scripture also recognizes the duty to protect the innocent and restrain evil (Romans 13:4 KJV; Proverbs 24:11–12 KJV).
So self-defense is not automatically unbiblical.
But the Bible also warns against violence, anger, recklessness, and trusting in weapons.
“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God” (Psalm 20:7 KJV).
Jesus rebuked Peter when he used the sword wrongly, saying, “Put up again thy sword into his place” (Matthew 26:52 KJV).
So the biblical view is not fear, rage, or weapon worship.
It is sober defense under the authority of God.
Seventh: Family Values
The Bible strongly supports the family. God created male and female (Genesis 1:27 KJV). Scripture teaches that a man shall leave father and mother and cleave unto his wife (Genesis 2:24 KJV). Fathers are commanded to bring up their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4 KJV).
So the conservative emphasis on family can align strongly with Scripture.
But Christians must also remember that “family values” without repentance, humility, faithfulness, and Christ-centered love is only a slogan.
Husbands are commanded to love their wives “even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it” (Ephesians 5:25 KJV).
Parents must not provoke their children to wrath (Ephesians 6:4 KJV).
The Bible does not call men to dominate their families in pride.
It calls them to sacrificial love, responsibility, and godly leadership.
Eighth: Free Speech and Religious Liberty
The Bible commands believers to speak the truth, preach the Gospel, and obey God rather than men.
“We ought to obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29 KJV).
Christians are commanded to preach the Gospel (Mark 16:15 KJV), contend for the faith (Jude 1:3 KJV), and speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15 KJV).
So defending religious liberty and free speech can align with Scripture.
But Christians must not confuse biblical boldness with cruelty, slander, mockery, or foolish talk.
Scripture says, “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt” (Colossians 4:6 KJV).
It also says, “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth” (Ephesians 4:29 KJV).
So yes, Christians should speak freely.
But we must speak truthfully, humbly, and in love.
Ninth: Personal Responsibility
The Bible teaches personal responsibility, diligence, discipline, and honest work.
“The soul that sinneth, it shall die” (Ezekiel 18:20 KJV).
“If any would not work, neither should he eat” (2 Thessalonians 3:10 KJV).
“Study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands” (1 Thessalonians 4:11 KJV).
So personal responsibility is biblical.
But Christians must not use personal responsibility as an excuse to ignore suffering, disability, injustice, illness, poverty, or oppression.
Jesus healed the sick, fed the hungry, touched lepers, received the broken, and had compassion on the multitudes (Matthew 14:14 KJV; Matthew 15:32 KJV).
The Good Samaritan did not walk past the wounded man and lecture him about responsibility. He stopped and helped him (Luke 10:30–37 KJV).
So personal responsibility is biblical.
Cold indifference is not.
Tenth: Political Anger and Cultural Warfare
The Bible teaches Christians to stand for truth. We are to contend for the faith (Jude 1:3 KJV), reprove the works of darkness (Ephesians 5:11 KJV), and put on the whole armour of God (Ephesians 6:11 KJV).
But the Bible does not command Christians to live in constant rage.
“The wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God” (James 1:20 KJV).
“Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you” (Ephesians 4:31 KJV).
Political anger can become addictive. It can make Christians harsh, suspicious, prideful, and unloving.
The enemy does not care whether our idol is left-wing or right-wing, as long as it replaces Christ.
So what is the conclusion?
The modern conservative right contains some concerns that overlap with biblical values, especially the sanctity of life, family, religious liberty, personal responsibility, law and order, national defense, and respect for work.
But several parts of the conservative agenda can become unbiblical when they turn into nationalism, pride, greed, cruelty toward strangers, worship of weapons, indifference to the poor, or rage disguised as righteousness.
A Christian must not ask, “How can I make the Bible fit my politics?”
A Christian must ask, “How must my politics submit to the Bible?”
That applies to the left.
That applies to the right.
That applies to every one of us.
If we are more loyal to a political movement than we are to the Word of God, we need to repent.
“Choose you this day whom ye will serve” (Joshua 24:15 KJV).
As for me, I choose the Lord Jesus Christ.
