I’m a 50-year-old man who’s always been proud to call himself an American. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve had this strong desire to serve others. I joined the US Navy while still in high school. After my Navy days, I continued serving by being active in the American Legion and working in the hospitality industry.
The year 2018 was a turning point. Some states were having intense debates about abortion, even considering the possibility of allowing abortions up to the moment of birth. Virginia even talked about permitting abortions after a child’s birth. This woke me up from my political slumber. While I understand that abortion is often debated, these extreme discussions bothered me deeply. It was clear that both society and our government had gone off track.
Becoming a Constitutionalist
Feeling a duty to address this, I wrote a book called “Progress, Really?” in 2019. Thanks to print-on-demand publishing, anyone can publish a book these days. While researching and writing, I realized my political beliefs leaned right on the ideological spectrum, but the Republican Party wasn’t a fit for me.
In my effort to bring attention to my first book, I began to blog. Soon I was encouraged by colleagues and my oldest son, to venture into podcasting, so I did with “Liberty Lighthouse,” which caught the attention of Mojo 5-0 Radio.
Through conversations with guests on Liberty Lighthouse, I discovered ideas that could potentially fix many of our government’s problems. I wanted to collect these simple ideas, which led to my second book, “So Simple Even A Politician Can Understand.” While writing this book is probably about when I started to think of myself as a constitutionalist, though I don’t think I realized it at the time.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I was baffled by the widespread compliance with what were clear violations of the Nuremberg Code and our constitutional rights. This frustration inspired my third book, “A More Tyrannical King,” where I drew parallels between King George III’s rule and the actions of the 21st-century US government.
After the unconstitutional lockdowns during the pandemic, I dove deep into researching the US Constitution and its original intent. Today, I am proud to be a Patriot Academy Constitutional Coach and an Instructor for the Institute on the Constitution. I firmly believe that returning to the Founding Fathers’ vision is the only way to restore our divinely endowed freedoms, rights, and liberties, peacefully.
Spreading the Word
I would love to travel the country giving lectures and teaching courses on the Constitution. The limited success of my books and radio show makes it clear that I can’t make a living that way. Like most people, I have bills and responsibilities that require a steady paycheck, so I continue to do what I can in my spare time.
That’s why I started the Liberty Lighthouse Classroom. I am building courses designed to teach the principles of our republican government and the original intent of the framers. Initially, I am repackaging existing course materials from groups like Patriot Academy and Institute on the Constitution, but I have plans to build my own courses soon.
Education is Key
Education is key in the effort to restore constitutional governance. If we, as citizens, don’t know our rights, those rights become meaningless. Our educational system has strayed from our Founding Fathers’ principles. Public schools have spent decades framing the founders in unflattering terms and painting the United States as evil.
Quotes
“The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are not delegated to the federal government, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.” – James Madison
“The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government.” – Patrick Henry
“A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have.” – Gerald Ford
Conclusion
I don’t know if I will ever be able to earn a living from trying to restore a constitutionally limited government, but I do know that it is up to us, “We The People,” to teach limited government to our neighbors and the next generation.
