From Khaki Guilt Trips to Rainbow Camo: A Snarky Comparison of Army Recruitment Ads

In the days before flappers and jazz took over, World War I recruitment ads were all about guilt-tripping young women in London. “Is your ‘best boy’ wearing khaki? If not, don’t you think he should be? If he doesn’t think you and your country are worth fighting for, well, is he even worthy of you?” Talk about setting relationship standards based on military fashion!

Fast forward to the 2020s, where the US Army decided to embrace the woke wave with enthusiasm. Instead of questioning relationships, they gave us a cartoon soldier with two moms. Because clearly, nothing says “Join the Army” like showcasing family diversity in combat gear. Who needs khaki when you can have rainbow camouflage?

Back then, it was all about proving your worth as a man through enlistment. Today, it’s about proving your woke status through family diversity and identity culture. Speaking of doom, let’s not forget our woke broke military, where diversity training takes precedence over combat readiness. We’ve got generals who excel at virtue signaling but falter when it comes to winning actual wars. When was the last time we actually won a war?

In conclusion, recruitment strategies have morphed from khaki guilt trips to rainbow camo celebrations. It’s a testament to how societal values and trends influence military messaging. What’s next? Maybe virtual reality enlistment with customizable diversity rainbow warrior avatars in a computer simulation, winner take all?

  1. My social media feeds have plenty of things about women serving in the military — a lot about female fighter pilots — and naturally there are commenters who say that women can’t measure up to men, that women don’t belong in the Armed Services, that women can’t fight.

My response is simple: American women are serving in the military because not enough (supposed) men are signing up! My daughter is serving so your son won’t get drafted.
