Parody As a Weapon Part CXII: Is it Ich bin nicht ein Bidener or Ich bin keine Bidener?

Parody As a Weapon Part CXII

Is it Ich bin nicht ein Bidener or Ich bin keine Bidener?

Last week, in Part CXI, we put the chicken before the egg as we examined the scrambled mess that is the Biden Administration and its fellow travelers. This week we will look again at how the Biden Administration and those associated with it manage to get almost everything exactly wrong, even as the White House Christmas tree gets blown over by a gust of wind just like the current chief occupant of the building.

This week the Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona was in the news when he tried to channel President Ronald Reagan by announcing “We’re from the government and we’re here to help” while touting the federal government’s latest foray into local school district decision making. Apparently it was lost on the cabinet official whom the democrats have established as the nation’s highest ranking public educator (without apparently reflecting on the deterioration of public education since the position was created less than half a century ago) that in context, Reagan had said that the nine scariest words in the English language were “I’m from the government, and I’m here to help”.

This should not be surprising, since Secretary Cardona’s boss has had difficulty with elementary education himself, showing an inability to count how many words there are in the phrase “Made in America”. As Cardona got his start teaching in fourth grade, before most schools start their social studies and history programs (but not too soon for graphic human sexuality instruction, apparently), perhaps it should not be surprising that his use of the Reagan quote from the 1980s is completely backward. After all, like Jill Biden, the cabinet secretary is a doctor of education. Cardona is also credited with arranging to have the National School Board Association send the letter to the FBI requesting domestic terrorism investigations be opened on angry parents at PTA meetings, so it appears during his own education he elected to take political science courses rather than those focused on factual history.

While it would be easy to attribute such a gaffe to stupidity or lack of education (certainly a trait less than desirable in the cabinet secretary of same), perhaps the usage was deliberate. Joe Biden has a long history of plagiarizing the speeches of others such as British Labor leader Neil Kinnock (or the work of others without attribution while in law school). Perhaps he and his administration have decided to misappropriate the words of prior presidents and other great leaders to inspire them or attempt to cover up their own lack of achievement. After all, on his first day in office his open borders transition team looked at the success the Trump administration had with its policies and construction and channeled Ronald Reagan in his speech to Gorbachev when they directed Biden to Tear down this wall!

As such, we will explore some well known quotations by prior presidents and others that can be repurposed out of context or with minor changes for use by Joe Biden and friends.

Lincoln was quoted as saying “How many legs does a dog have if you call his tail a leg? Four. Saying that a tail is a leg doesn’t make it a leg.” Clearly Joe Biden was testing his counting skills about this expression with his German Shepherd Major when he broke his foot while pulling the dog’s tail in December of 2020.

John F. Kennedy famously said “Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of Liberty”.

Joe Biden and his Assistant Secretary for Health and Human Services Rachel Levine would like to utter the same sentiments, albeit more in context of referring to drag queen Liberty L’Estrange. When learning that Franklin Delano Roosevelt had announced “This generation has a rendezvous with Destiny”, they set out to book Destiny Davenport for a drag show story hour.

JFK also spoke of the economic growth brought on by tax cuts, and famously said “A rising tide lifts all boats”. Joe Biden would use the expression to illustrate climate change and why his green new deal initiatives should be passed (presumably to sink all boats).

Ronald Reagan also famously quipped on the topic of government “Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.” When presented with this quote, Biden tried to sign it as an executive order to make it official administration policy.

When Gerald Ford first became president in August of 1974, he delivered a speech to a joint session of Congress. During that address he made the following observation: “A  government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have”. Upon being presented with that quote, Biden tried to get Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries to submit it to Congress as their budget proposal.

There is a quote attributed to Calvin Coolidge, who ran a highly successful presidential administration a century ago, in large part by ignoring the impulse to intervene. Known as Silent Cal due to his reputation of being miserly with words, there is a story that a woman approached him at an event, and told him that she had a bet that she could get him to say more than three words. His reply was You lose.

Certainly, since his inauguration in January of 2021, that is what Biden has been telling America.
