In a world full of military branches, it’s time to cut through the camouflage and reveal the undeniable truth: the only “real” branches are the Army and Navy, because, as we all know, they’re the only ones the Constitution authorizes. As veterans, we’ve sworn an oath to the Constitution, not some alphabet soup like the NDAA. So let’s take a light-hearted journey through the land of snark and explore why these two branches reign supreme.
1. Constitutionally Correct: The Army and Navy are like the chosen ones of the Constitution. The Founding Fathers must have had a divine vision of paratroopers and battleships because they’re the only branches explicitly mentioned in the Constitution. Can you find the Air Force or the Marines in there? We’ll wait…forever.
2. The Preamble Parade: “We the People, in order to provide for the common defense, establish the Army and Navy, and screw the rest.” Okay, so we might have taken a little creative liberty with that, but the point stands – the Army and Navy are right there, proudly called upon to defend this great nation.
3. Oldies But Goodies: While the Air Force and Marines may be relatively younger, the Army and Navy have been around since the dawn of the Republic. We’re not saying age equals superiority, but when it comes to military branches, it kind of does.
4. Size Matters: Let’s not beat around the bush – the Army and Navy are BIG. They’re like the sumo wrestlers of the military world. With aircraft carriers that double as floating cities and enough soldiers to form their own nation, they’ve got quantity AND quality on their side.
5. “Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum”: Pirates, swashbucklers, and naval adventures – what’s not to love? The Navy brings that romantic image of life on the high seas, complete with eye patches and wooden legs. The Air Force might have fighter jets, but the Navy has pirate ships. Need we say more?
6. “Land, ho!”: If there’s one thing we learned from the Army, it’s that they can take any piece of real estate and make it their own. Who else can turn a desert or a mountain into a fully functioning base, complete with cafeterias and golf courses? The answer is no one, and that’s why they’re the true MVPs.
7. Classic vs. Modern: The Army and Navy have a timeless, classic appeal. They’ve been defending the nation since the 18th century, whereas the Air Force and Marines are like the flashy, trendy newcomers. We all know who wins in the long run.
In conclusion, while we may be poking fun at the other branches, we want to make it clear that every branch of the military is essential and has its unique strengths. The Army and Navy might have the Constitution on their side, but the Air Force, Marines, Space Force and Coast Guard have their own vital roles in ensuring the safety and security of the nation. So, let’s celebrate the diversity and strengths of all our military branches, even if we do like to rib each other from time to time.

Well, up to about 1815 most of our naval power WAS a kind of pirate ship, in the form of privateers who were basically state-licensed and regulated pirates.
As for Marines as “junior”… well, I think with them claiming lineage to 1775 they might have a few things to say about that. The AF is definitely the spoiled-rotten-brat child of the armed services, though… and I say that as the grandson of a retired Master Sergeant.
