Citizen Writers Fighting Censorship by Helping Americans Understand Issues Affecting the Republic.
Two and a half centuries ago, the American founders attempted something radical. They built a government specifically designed not to accumulate too much power. It was intentionally slow, limited, and divided against itself. The idea was simple: if ambition countered ambition, tyranny would have a hard time getting traction.
A series of critical inflection points led us to the point where we currently are with a strong central government with several corrupt and potentially criminal acts. If it was not the federal government, elements of the central government could be subject to RICO. The key inflection points center around the Progressive Era in the early 20th century and include the Wilsonian bureaucratic reforms, the 16th Amendment and the 17th Amendment to the Constitution. Real reform must address these areas. Otherwise DOGE may save some money this year, but will not fundamentally change how the government is structured or operates.
In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex.
It’s time to repeal the 16th Amendment and it’s direct taxation of American Citizens. It’s time to once again place state governments between their citizens and the Federal leviathan.
The Mad Scientists in the federal government created an unelected and largely unaccountable 4th branch of government. Path dependency keeps us locked into this approach and will require a significant punctured equilibrium to change.
