I Read the DSA’s Entire 2026 Platform and Mapped 10 Years of It Onto My Life in Ohio

A student asked me a question last spring that I still can’t shake.

We were finishing a unit, and I had gone off on one of my tangents (my students will tell you this happens roughly every eleven minutes). I was talking about how republics fall. Not with armies. With paperwork. A girl in the third row put her hand up and asked, very quietly, “Mr. Bski, could that happen here?”

I gave her the teacher answer. I said our system was built to make it very, very hard.

Six years ago, the rise of the “Bernie bros” supporting avowed socialist candidate Bernie Sanders (I-VT) raised the question of whether decades of soft indoctrination about the “horrors” of capitalism by the Democrat-media complex and the oft-promised but never delivered benefits of socialism had finally produced enough voters willing to elect their way out of free enterprise.

In King James’ version of the Bible – in Matthew 5:15-16 – Jesus says:

“Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.”

Jesus was encouraging us to not hide from the world our skills and good qualities. But to instead allow them to shine in the open – and illuminate the world for everyone.

It’s not too big of a stretch to apply Jesus’ parable to what’s currently going on with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) – and Ohio’s 15th Congressional district.

Yesterday – on Sunday, because the Internet never rests? I received in my inbox an op-ed from Larry Kudlow.

For those of you who don’t know…:

“Lawrence Alan Kudlow is an American conservative broadcast news analyst, economist, columnist, journalist, political commentator, and radio personality. He is a financial news commentator for Fox Business and served as the director of the National Economic Council during the Trump administration from 2018 to 2021.”

I’ve met Larry. He is a very nice guy.

That said: Kudlow is a standard-issue Washington, DC center-right economy guy. He is exactly the type of Republican economist – that is killing the Republican Party.

Kudlow’s economic messaging – is the Republicans’ economic messaging. And it is more tone deaf than a year’s worth of nationwide karaoke contests.
